I had a couple of hours spare on my ride home from Martinhoe and I saw a sign for this reservoir. I decided to see what it was. I was thoroughly rewarded as it was a very scenic walk. The parking is fine (I parked at the top which was free- I think) but you can drive down a small path to the main parking which does cost. You can then take an outer or inner walk around the reservoir. I took the inner as I had already walked 8km earlier. It was a beautiful place to visit and not too crowded. A worthwhile visit. …

This is a reservoir situated in the north west area of Exmoor National Park not far from Barnstaple in Devon. The reservoir has a lovely walk around it of about 1.75 miles. There are various benches to sit on to take in the view and be at one with nature and there is also a bird hide there (No birds were in it when we went past though - they were all out in the open!). At one point it is possible to go on a detour to lengthen the walk but we took the shorter route. There is a small car park (fee payable) and dogs can be taken on the walk. The path itself is well made up so is also suitable for those with mobility problems and there are not many inclines on the shorter route. The longer route is a little bit more strenuous apparently and does involve some greater inclines. There is lots of wildlife to see and the views over the reservoir are lovely.…

I went around the reservoir on the tricycles on the afternoon of Saturday 7th December 2019. It is lovely place to walk around and see the area, which was once a railway in the heyday.
