Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The church is dark, but very striking, with several chapels which contain the remains of frescos, and many beautiful ceilings.

This site is a bit of a misnomer since it is built on a hill rather than a mountain. It is one of the nine Sacred Mountains of northern Italy which are groups of chapels and other architectural elements erected between the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 18th century. They are dedicated to various aspects of the Catholic faith.

In 2003, UNESCO registered the "Sacred Mountains of Piedmont and Lombardy" site on the World Heritage List.

This Church is set in a wooded parkland which is a very popular place for picnics and family outings.

The church was built in the late 1580’s around an existing sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary whose creation is traditionally attributed to Saint Eusebius of Vercelli, around 350 AD. Eusebius is also said to have installed the statue of the Madonna which is still venerated in the sanctuary.

During the eighteenth century, the Sacro Monte fell into a state of neglect. Between 1796 and 1801, the incursions of the French revolutionary troops contributed to the ruin of many structures, statues, and frescoes. For some decades the Sacro Monte was abandoned, but in 1820 a community of Franciscan friars became responsible for the Sanctuary and began to restore some buildings. In 1885 a systematic restoration campaign began, supported by the bishop of Milan Nazari di Calabiana.

Not an amazing place, but worth a stop to see the small chapels and the nature surrounding them. As a Unesco freak I had to visit this Sacro Monte but I'm not sure everyone will enjoy it, to be honest! Parking in the area is practical

Definitely stop here and have a taste of the beauty of the relaxing surrings. The sanctuary itself is really preatty and there are a couple of walks you can do around this holy mount.

It is very bad to see the semi-abandoned state in which many chapels of this UNESCO site find themselves. Statues covered with layers of dust and floors covered with dust and dried leaves. Maximum disappointment is the Chapel of Paradise, where you can barely see only the statues below and you can hardly see the splendid cluster of statues hanging from the ceiling that makes this site famous. Despite being a beautiful sunny day, the chapel was plunged into semi-darkness.

Definitely worth a visit. Small chapels located up the hill where you’ll walk and see the chapels with art installations throughout. Overall, a nice experience with beautiful scenery

Nice walk around the chapels. Great views and perfect for a picknick under the trees. Ideal combination with wine tasting at Tenuta Tenaglia just around the corner.

Great ristorante. Authentic Piemontese food of superb quality. Excellent vitello tonato ( no mayonaise!!), insalata russa ( no mayonaise (!) and flan di zucchine con fonduta. Great chef and kind personel which explains with pride their 'cucina della nonna' ( grandmothers kitchen). Chapeau for this restaurant.

We found no problems parking, everything was explained well in both Italian & English, it was very clean & well kept, the day we were there there was a brass band playing which we really enjoyed.

This world heritage site is a must see in the Piedmont. The church is just breath-taking. Perhaps the most interesting is the corridor filled with ex-votos offered to the Virgin for saving members from death and illness - quite a history.

Then climb the mountain to see as many shrines as possible to the Paradise at the summit. The view is astounding, until you enter the shrine to see the assumption of Mary in life-size sculptures. No wonder it's a world heritage site.

Set on top of a hill amongst a woodland this sanctuary was not as I expected. The church was so dark it was depressing! The room beside the church of momentoes left by people did not give the church any uplifting feeling. The chapels are lovely buildings set within the woodlands and offers a pleasant walk. As it was Autumn the colour of the trees made it lovely and it was empty of other visitors. I would imagine in summer there would be a lot of people seeking the shade. The statues in some chapels were interesting but many need restoration or light was too poor to see. Compared to other sanctuaries I have visited I did not find it an uplifting experience.
