Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely beach - wonderful cafes and pub - but AVOID the car park - it is owned by a couple in Totnes who rent it out to Premier Parking Solutions. I'd be happy to share the details of their business with anyone who would like to contact them directly. The car park is not owned by the council or the town - at least then some of the money would be invested back into the local community.

It’s undoubtably a loverly beach for both a walk and dip in the sea. But the council do all they can to catch visitors in the car park. Firstly to park is very expensive and difficult in summer but more annoying is they use cameras which log your exact time in and out of the car park and you receive a fine if your just one minute over. This catches visitors out because they think that as long as they are back at their car and vacate within a few minutes they are okay only to receive a fine through the post when they get home.

We have been going to Hope Cove for nearly 50 years with friends and have always loved the place. Sadly after some terrible experiences with the car park adjacent to the beach we have decided to take our breaks elsewhere. Very sad but reading some of the reviews of other peoples experiences with the car park it appears that we are not the only ones to have made this decision.

It’s a pity that the smell of sewage was prevalent at low tide.properties in desperate need of a lick of paint and modernisation. Very run down. Drinks very expensive in pub, the local shop selling Tesco products???

This beautiful quaint little village had a weekend celebration/ festival when we visited. So many activities and local completions going on such as paddle board racing etc. The stalls were lovely and the food great. We visited the Hope & Anchor Pub, which was very nice and welcoming.

There are two beaches; Mouthwell Sands and Hope Cove. The first was already busy when we arrived so we popped around the Corner to Hope Cove and it just stank of sewage, especially by the break wall. There was also brown scum on the water in places by the wall and having read up since, I believe that there is an outlet pipe local. The stench was really overpowering and there was just no way I was going to dip a toe in. Such a shame as it’s quite a pretty bay.

Small car park in the village centre otherwise you will have to park outside and walk in. Much better beaches to visit.

Went to Hope Cove with our now grown up children as a trip down memory lane, we walked up to Bolberry Down on a lovely afternoon. Sadly things in Hope Cove have not improved with age, the fist thing was the main beach was rammed full of parked boats and kayaks, with all the beach goers crammed into a tiny space of dry sand left, it wasn’t even high tide!
The walk up to Bolberry Down was as beautiful as we remembered, however we were all gasping for a pint by the time got to the top only to find the pub Port Light was closed and is now an expensive restaurant which was also closed despite the great weather and it being the school holidays! We had a great afternoon but today’s reality couldn’t match up to our memories!

Beautiful place. Lots of coastal walks if that’s your thing. 3 beaches to chose from so you can find space to yourself if wanted. The main beach is rocky

Lovely location when quiet. Two great beach bays. Impressive cliffs and seascapes. Very difficult however when busy summer periods bring the usual traffic , camper vans and caravans. Avoid when in the peak of summer

Be very careful using the car park! Its not the quaint little local village car park that you might think... I parked, bought a ticket then subsequently received a penalty notice and further threatening notices even though I had a paid ticket. We returned home abroad and decided to pay the reduced fine as hopeless trying to make contact with the park company.
Beaches and cafes are nice, however there is a stench of sewerage in the Inner Hope harbour area around the breakwater, smells and looks like more than rotting seaweed.
