Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I enjoyed it more the I thought I would have. Everything is in the Centro. Easy access but the Combi (bus) is hard to comprehend. It’s great walking city. The weather never changes. I was there 5 weeks and not one day of rain in November.

Absolutely amazing!
No wonder why this place is recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage. Fantastic colonial architecture and people are friendly and warm. Simply spend one full day walking around downtown, it is a gem!

Just a beautiful neighborhood. Grand churches, museums, restaurants for any taste and some great shopping. Very active part of town both day and night. Parks and streets couldn’t be any cleaner. Just an overall great vibe. Great mixture of people of all ages. We were 2 female travelers and felt very safe. Can’t wait to go back.

This historic center is very nice. There's lots to see and to learn. We just walked for hours on end, finding interesting buildings, parks and history. If you're not a walked, there are sight-seeing tours departing from the park next to the cathedral

The architecture of Morelia is some of the most suburb of all Mexico. It has fabulous examples of every period and style. I particularly liked the SW corner of he Plaza de Armas on Calle Allende. On the three corners you can see magnificent colonial buildings each of a completely different and glorious style. The history of Colonial Architecture before your eyes.

Morelia’s Centro Histórico is beautiful, lively, clean and safe. The Catedral, the Plaza de Armas and the Portales are in the city center and within seconds of each other. The Cathedral is beautiful and the plaza and the portales offer opportunities to sit and people-watch. We enjoyed a couple of cocktails outside of the Hotel Virrey de Mendoza. To enjoy the colonial architecture, just walk up and down Madero Street which also offers plenty of shopping and dinning. A great way to see the historic city center is to take a guided tour on a trolly. It starts near the cathedral and the plaza and lasts about one hour. The tours includes the major sites including the impressive aqueduct. The historic city center is very busy so be careful when crossing the streets. Also, be ready to see people asking for money. Fortunately, we never encountered anyone who was aggressive. Overall, Morelia’s historic city center is a great place to visit.

The city of Morelia is a treasure trove of well-preserved 16th, 17th, and 18th century buildings. The historic center is a great location to explore museums, cultural spaces, exhibition centers, restaurants, and nightlife. There is something of interest in every corner, within walking distance. From UNESCO: "Built in the 16th century, Morelia is an outstanding example of urban planning which combines the ideas of the Spanish Renaissance with the Mesoamerican experience. Well-adapted to the slopes of the hill site, its streets still follow the original layout. More than 200 historic buildings, all in the region's characteristic pink stone, reflect the town's architectural history, revealing a masterly and eclectic blend of the medieval spirit with Renaissance, Baroque and neoclassical elements. Morelia was the birthplace of several important personalities of independent Mexico and has played a major role in the country's history."

The square is busy with lots of folks, but there are plenty of cafes and people watching to sit back and enjoy. In the evening there are street vendors with lots of souvenirs if you’re interested.

En lugares céntricos, turísticos y temprano todo esta tranquilo. La inseguridad lo vemos en todo México.

We are coming to Morelia next week to see the butterflies and the area. The US government has said this is a very dangerous area to travel in. It rated it a so not travel area.
Has anyone been there recently and how safe was it?!

Though I was very close to Michoacán (Pátzcuaro and Janitzio) , I was with a tour group of Mexican Nationals. Since tourist money helps the local economy, I would think you would be fine. Just don't flash fancy jewelry /watches and clothes. You should be fine. Enjoy the food!
