This surprised me a lot!
When we went we weren’t hugely sure what to expect, even more so with the bird flu cautions cornwall are taking. But we spent quite a few hours here.
From the moment we got there, we had raccoon talk, ostrich and alpaca talk, lemur talk, goat and meerkat talk. Which are repeated again in the afternoon. We also had two flying displays (one in morning and one in afternoon) which at the moment take place on the barn rather than outside. They also do owl talks outside too !
While we was here we got to feed the ostrich’s the alpacas & the goats! & at the end of the flying display they have an owl who flies to us and lands on us (with the glove on) we as adults got to do this as it was quite quiet but if busy I presume kids get priority so if as an adult you’d love this, go while kids are at school 🤣
My only feed back to the sanctuary is I wish they shared the stories of the owls / animals the have rescued as things like that interest me. Other than that, lovely lovely place !!

Thank you for your feedback. We are working towards updating all our information boards with details of the owls and animals backgrounds and this information can also be found out via the talks and generally the staff are always willing to answer questions.
We are glad that you found the Sanctuary a lovely place, just for reference and for other people reading this review we have Emus, which you can hand feed, and not Ostriches at the Sanctuary. Also with the interactive element of the flying display we aim to do a mix of all ages but not everyone is guaranteed the opportunity to have an owl land on the glove

Wonderful day out - us group of adults were encouraged to fly the birds and get involved in the demonstrations, not just for kids which was great
Staff friendly approachable and informative. Animals obviously well looked after and loved. Lots of variety and plenty to see. Lots of places to sit & rest.
Cafe food was great (toasties and veggie breakfast) and good value. Fantastic shop too!!
Thanks for a great day out

We went this week (Easter school hols). The owls are amazing creatures and so are the lemurs and llamas and emus among other animals. It’s unbelievable that they have 82 owls there. The staff are so lovely and knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their jobs. We learnt so much from them. There is always a teaching to attend whether it’s a flight or a feeding and plenty of interaction opportunities with the animals too. So you can keep really busy and be educated all day or just dip in and out of the activities you fancy. With the young kids we missed a couple of talks and just played in the lovely play area by the cafe alongside the stalks and wallabies who seemed to just make lovely company with us and a fence between of course. Homemade cakes in the cafe looked delicious. The owls were talking back to us and the lemurs went crazy loud for just one short burst while we were there they were so amusing. Not that they should be performing to us but they just did their thing and was hilarious. Oh and the raccoons are adorable. So much nicer and calmer and enjoyable than a day at a theme park. We were tired at the end of the day after all the fresh air but was such a lovely day. We were lucky it wasn’t too busy so could access everything easily as we pleased. Thanks to all the staff and creatures there for all their hard work. We would like to book a visit inside with the lemurs which is something we were advised to do before our return visit.

We had a lovely day at the Screech Owl Sanctuary. Staff were friendly, knowledgable and great with the children. We all learnt something new about wildlife, which is great. Easter quiz for the kids was good too. Would definitely recommend a visit. We spent 3 and a half hours there. Make sure you attend the talks and displays, it's what really makes the visit. Thanks for a lovely day!

We visited several weeks ago while on holiday in Devon, and while at the Meerkat enclosure, one of them came out carrying a baby Meerkat, even the keeper didn't know about any births until then.
I was wondering how the baby is doing?

Your visit is as long as you want it to be.
We visited it with our 9 year old grandson and we stayed around 2 hours. I spent a lot of time photographing the owls, meer cats etc. The flying display lasted nearly 50 minutes 2 Owls and Kookaburra, very entertaining. The Cafe/Tea shop is very nice and with friendly staff. There was no rush to get us to leave, we had arrangements elsewhere

How do i get to the owl sanctuary from st columb train station by public transport?
Geoff H
Surrey40 contributions
The sanctuary is about 3 miles from St Column railway station mostly along minor roads. It is difficult to see that these roads would have a through bus route on them. I can only suggest that you email the Screech Owl Sanctuary and ask them directly. Their address is given on their website under Get in Touch.
Good luck
