Avoid - worst cove in Cornwall
May 2021
Many years ago visited Lamorna Cove & had such fond memories, not so now.
The cove feels neglected & run down. We did pay for a parking ticket & so glad as almost decided to leave without stopping. Like others feel the parking system ruins the place. We visited early May when many of the other car parks were free till some of the COVID regulations lifted. Just goes to show they only want to make money here.
Toilets looked to have been closed for years. Cafe shut & what was a harbour wall where you could sit on the beach has now fallen in. Such a shame but would never visit Lamorna again as far nicer places

Heartbreaking loss
Jun 2021 • Couples
Such joyful memories of visits as a kid. Not news but the place lost its public toilet facilities years and years ago, along with a big portion of harbour wall. The AMPR cameras are a let down- you can’t even sort out change. Parking still relatively cheap- £1 for an hour is fine as there’s not loads to do.
The cafe USED to do one of the best cream teas or crab sandwiches. It didn’t today when we visited. Nor do they now have a toilet for customers to use! Staff were consistently rude and clearly didn’t want to do their job.
I’m sad to say I’m putting Lamorna in my memories box and won’t be returning now.

Parking rip off
Apr 2021 • Couples
As with many others I was issued a parking fine. The machine was out of order so could not pay even so we received a demand for £100. Appealed the decision and sent a photo of the parking machine that showed the machine was out of order. The reply was we should of entered our registration number, but how when it was out of order, and in this instance they would reduce the charge to £19.50. Still deciding whether to continue the appeal process or just pat the 19.50 to get them off my back. Love Cornwall but will never return to Lamorna Cove.

It’s pretty enough views.
May 2021 • Couples
Staying in the area so chose to walk down to Lamorna Cove. There have been lots of issues posted on here about parking and needing change, so we chose to walk instead.
The views of the cove are beautiful and we managed to take some lovely photographs of the water.
However there isn’t exactly much to it. The local cafe and pub were closed, and the cove itself is quite small.
If you have a spare 15 minutes to visit or really enjoy walking the coastal path it’s worth a visit, but not much else going on.

Why bother?
May 2021
Lamorna Cove fails to fulfil the promise of the pretty road that leads down to it. We found it an uninspiring and dismal dump. Speaking of which, the public toilets were closed, with the inevitable disgusting consequences in the only obvious hidey-hole. Notices about car parking fees despoil many views. We won’t be returning.

This area abounds in lovely coastal scenery and there are many alternative places from which to access the coast path. You’d do better to go and explore!

A disgrace - unworthy of Cornwall. Avoid, avoid, avoid,
Sep 2020
As so many others have noted, the car park arrangements here are a disgrace.

We too arrived, parked, and went to buy a parking ticket.
Cash only? And in the time of Covid 19 when cash is rarely used.
No-one else around to ask for change....

Socially distanced queuing outside the cafe to see if they could help - after all they do sell tickets if you want to launch a boat from there....
The cafe staff were rude and dismissive.

We drove away - only to receive, as so many others have done, a £100 parking charge.

It's not possible to read the car park information board without actually parking first, by which time your number plate has already been photographed.
The 'grace' period between parking and getting a ticket is apparently 5 minutes.
There is no way anyone with limited mobility could do this in that time frame.
And there is no way that it could be done if there were others queuing to pay.

The boards read "Welcome". What a sick joke.
As a local I'm angry that visitors should experience this.
It feels as though it is a money-making trap - why else would you not install a parking ticket machine that accepts credit cards, or a barrier at the car park entrance.
There should be a clear indication before you enter the car park that parking tickets are only available with cash.

It seems this car park has operated in this way for many years.
It brings Cornwall into disrepute.

Fantastic diving / snorkelling
Aug 2020
It's all about the underwater world here. Snorkelling and diving are amazing. If snorkelling head out *around* the breakwater then along the rocks for an amazing experience, like being in an aquarium. Easy shore diving for scuba too as you can kit up at your car then it's straight down the slipway. Fantastic conditions. There are toilets and a cafe on-site (with outdoor tap).

This is truly one of the most beautiful and accessible dives in Cornwall - it's right up there with Porthkerris, and for snorkelling I'd go as far to say as it has the edge.

The site is very sheltered is less weather dependent than other sites (it's more protected from easterlies than Porthkerris).

Downside is the parking is a bit of a mess. There's not many spaces so get here early if you can. Car park machine only takes coins (no cards and there's no app). Pay first before doing anything else as the grace period is pretty short and apparently they have ANPR cameras (I've never had a problem myself, but others have).

DO NOT VISIT LAMORA - CAR PARK NIGHTMARE
Apr 2021
Like hundreds of others I didnt read the reviews until it was too late !
Arrived Easter week, place was a ghost town. Sat in car for 5 mins due to dull drizzle and then decided to pay and walk for an hour. Paid for an hour.
The cove is beautiful but there are much better coves in Cornwall.
Because I didnt pay immediately the 5 minutes initial parking enduced a £100 parking ticket 2 weeks later with a very generous discount to £60 if paid within 14 days. Spoilt the holiday as this is now the only memory. Greedy landowners making a living from ruining Beauty spots, why would they need to open the cafe or paint the building, provide open toilets at Easter or even a waste bin. Please don't visit Lamora, its just not worth it!

Extremely bad
Jul 2020 • Couples
I agree with so many other comments on here, this place is all about making money out of any unsuspecting people to happen upon it. It’s disgusting . Despite this being a fairly cute little cove I really wouldn’t bother mainly because the owners /council don’t deserve to be reaping the benefits of tourism. When we visited there was no card alternative to the ticket machine, which was very poorly maintained, not being updated to accept cards like most modern environments now. On popping to the tea shop to see if we could acquire some change, we were rudely ignored as they weren’t quite open yet. So we left less than 5 minutes over the 10 minute grace period in which to obtain a ticket. Now £160 later for a parking contravene , I think the owners / council are having a jolly on everyone’s behalf . It definitely wasn’t worth the effort , nicer places in Wales to be honest where we have modern card paying ticket machines !! Maybe Lamorna Cove keeping it that way so that they can catch more people out, there’s nothing advertised regarding the rules !!

Do not visit
Dec 2020
Cornwall is a beautiful place, full of wonderful people.

The people who operate this car park are only out to fine people. They are unreasonable and just want to generate revenue. They will even charge you 50p for appealing against a ticket.

Save yourself some hassle and keep away from the place.
