My friends and i went to see the luminescent plankton, and i can truly say it has been one of the most amazing experience I've had. We swam in the lagoon at night, and everything would glow. Very very recommended.
Laguna de Manialtepec is one of the most incredible wildlife habitats in the world. I have done a birdwatching tour there which was fascinating and a good way to exercise while on vacation. Get in touch with Eco Adventures for the bioluminescent plankton tour. One...More
The tour arranged through our hotel, Casamar Suites in Zicatela, was SO GREAT. I wish I knew the name of the tour company, but maybe get the info from them? We did the bird/lagoon daylight thing which was nice, but the sunset on the beach...More
Such an incredible experience. Our group was taken out in a boat on this beautiful lagoon while the sun was still up. The guide pointed out birds here and there then delivered us to a sandy beach area to watch the sunset. The best part...More
We went 2 days before Full Moon and could not see much.
The “covered shed” to which we have to swim to... and only inside can you see the phosphorescent light.
I had asked the tour guide... and he promised that it was OK to...More
My husband and I went on three tours with Lalo and had an amazing experience on each one. We went on a bird-watching tour, night swimming in the bio-luminescent lagoon, and horseback riding to hot springs. We were so lucky to have Eve as our...More
We went there at night to see the bioluminiscence, it is crazy incredible! Something you do not see anywhere else. Cellphones or go pro's cannot take a good picture of this phenomenon, their lense is not good enough, you need a camera however, I think...More
We went with Manglar Bird Tours. The transportation from Puerto was about 1/2 hour and we went out in the boat right away. It was a beautiful evening with stars out and calm water. The water was very warm. Most of our group of 10...More

I would recommend goofing as late as possible as the darker it is the more bioluminescence will show. Also if your Spanish is good you can go straight to the lagoon and deal the price there as it will be way cheaper than if you book in advance or in town also the winter months are the best since is usually very cloudy so the moon light doesn’t go thru and the plankton lights up even more

You can check the lunar calendar to see where your trip falls during the moon cycle. I can not recommend a bioluminescent tour when there is a lot of moonlight, but during the darker 1/2 of the month, others have said it is enjoyable. Check also the temperature for comfort because this also involved getting into the water at night.
