- BennettbrianHebburn, United Kingdom2,988 contributionsA Must VisitWorth paying for a tuk tuk to take you from the entrance to the top of the steep ascent to the tower. A bit of a trek to walk. Definitely not for the faint hearted or acrophobic, the HSE would have field day. The climb to the top can be daunting, the higher you get the more difficult it becomes to pass on the narrow spiral staircase. The stairways have no conformity and are very narrow in places and care is needed as there is no control of who is on the tower. It’s best to get there early, even though it is not a very busy attraction the earlier the better to avoid congestion. The panoramic views from the tower are simply amazing and well worth the effort, you will not be disappointed with the astonishing beauty of the 360 degree views.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 January 2024
- Nik_singHong Kong, China73 contributionsUnobstructed SerenityVisiting Ambuluwawa Tower was a delightful experience. Halfway through the journey, we switched from car to tuk-tuk, which added to the adventure. The panoramic views from the tower were simply breathtaking, offering an undisturbed vista of the surroundings. The ticket prices were reasonable, making it accessible for all travelers. It's definitely a must-visit spot for anyone exploring the area!Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 March 2024
- ianx17489Inverurie, United Kingdom997 contributionsStunning views from the top.Certainly worth the effort to get to the top for the views alone. It was Rs 2,000 each and Rs350 for the car which was good value. The spiral staircase going up gets "very" narrow, so there is a lot of shuffling of bodies trying to pass each other..... at the very top there is only space for a few people.... It was certainly worth the experience but it could do with some maintenance..... if you have fear of heights it's likely not for you. !Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 March 2024

Multi religious complex in Sri Lanka. Major highlight is the spiral tower. Reaching here would not be difficult but the road up here is very steep and if the vehicle is loaded it could be hard. We did it on a vitz and a picanto. Since 5 people were traveling, vitz was stuck at a point and then we had to get down the people and do that hard stretch. But it is doable in any kind of vehicle. Tuk tuk guys at the bottom will try to fool you saying it is not doable. Don’t get caught.
You have to buy a ticket to enter, 50pp and 100 per vehicle. There are enough spaces to park the vehicle at top. Try to reach there early morning when there’s less crowd. When we visited it was largely crowded and there was a huge rush to climb the tower. It took us nearly 2 hours to climb and come back. Although there’s nothing at the top the view is certainly amazing.
Must visit place at least once.

This was truly amazing and I will never forget visiting Ambuluwawa. We were lucky in that we (inadvertently) arrived before it opened but the staff allowed us to go in anyway. That meant we climbed the tower when no one else was there. It is narrow in places so it's not for the faint hearted and yes there is some graffiti on the inside parts of the tower but nothing can take away from the spectacular views. It has a true air of peacefulness and serenity. I would make sure you arrive as early as you can and get the morning views. We left just as it was opening at 8am but it was still quiet then so definitely the best time to visit. I can imagine we would not have enjoyed it anywhere near as much if it had been overrun and busy.

Besides the super tall tower, there are other several kind of temples within this property. All temples are interconnected by underground labyrinth of alleys.
Climbing all the way up to the main tower is advisable only for those who do not fear the height!
It was not part in my initial agenda as you need to arrange a tuktuk to go there. But I am glad that I visited it.
It is possible to make the most out of the tuktuk ride by combining also the visit of a tea factory, the royal botanical gardens and a show of local dances

We couldnt make it to the top as there were workers painting the tower, everyone was getting covered in paint dripping from above. No one seemed to care other than our tuk tuk driver. Very disappointed. It seems earning money from tourists is more important than providing a good experience. The tower is beautiful and the views are even better although this was hard to enjoy because of the issues faced.

Was excited to climb the tower when I realized I was traveling to Sri Lanka. My driver/guide joined me as I was a solo traveler. It was his first time to climb also. The anticipation of the climb. And sharing with people from Sri Lanka was an awesome experience. The day was busy as holiday had just begun. That was part of the fun craziness of this experience. The tuk tuk ride to the tower is also a must do!! If you have the chance then climb it. We had some clouds roll by consuming us. Adding to the uniqueness of this experience.

Amazing Experience, a well spent day with friends. The climb up and down isn't that difficult, but it's very narrow so must be careful.

hi dear
how many time whit tuk tuk from gampola train station to tower ambuluwawa?
and how much roopiye(RP) you pay to tuk tuk?
best regards

Hi dear, If you take a tuk tuk from gampola town U have to pay about 900 or 1000 rupees. it takes time about 20 minutes to reach ambuluwawa tower from gampola town. U can also take the bus from gampola bus station route is Gampola to hemmathagama and you have to get down at the ticket counter and bus fair is 25 rupees per person and you can hire a tuk tuk from the ticket counter and cost is 500 for up and you have to pay Rs.700 for both up and down. I think you can hire a tuk tuk from gampola town and before you go ask the price and try to bargain when you return down from tower you can walk on down it may be a nice experience to you and then take a tuk tuk from ticket counter to get back to Gampola town and cost is Rs.400

You can , take any train towards Badulla or nuwara Eliya leaving from Kandy. Get off at GAMPOLA. it’s very close from there. And Gampola is few stations away from Kandy.
