Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I intended to photograph the place at sunset. Its website says it would close at 7 PM. The sunset was at 6PM. I got there at 5 PM and figured I would have plenty of time to walk around. A lady at the ticket window pointed to a hand-written note on the window saying it closed at 5 in "winter". First, it's not winter yet. It changed the closing hour without changing it on its website. Even my hotel concierge thought the closing hour was 7 PM. That's just not cool.

We were super excited to learn everything about salt extraction and were looking forward to the visit. unfortunately we were very disappointed. You pay 7€ per person... For what, anyway? For initially listening to information on my phone in bad translation app German that is incredibly boring? After the entrance you walk a bit until you get to the shop through the fields. In the shop you are instructed with excellent unkindness but to go FIRST through the grounds and then come back. So you keep walking through the fields, without any information board or similar but with as many prohibition signs as I have seen anywhere in a long time. This just seems incredibly unfriendly. A multimedia show was announced in the hall, which is very full-bodied for three televisions that unwind an ancient film in blurred quality. The hall is unair-conditioned and had 34 degrees on our day. Otherwise there are displays on the walls which are also no longer contemporary and a salt box, again paved with forbidden signs. The "roof terrace" with supposed super views of the salt fields is located in the 1. Floor, height difference to the ground 2.50 meters and thus no spectacular view. To refresh we went to the cafe there (door open, air conditioning on ice cold) in which the service was again unfriendly. Heading back to the parking lot you could finally see a few salt fields with semi-ripe salt, as well as a yard with carts and salt boxes. We wanted to photograph this and were met by a chauffeur who makes the shuttle to the spa with the car as if it were about a SEK operation and in Slovenian we were not allowed to enter. Then eye-rolling in -very brittle- English. Funnily enough, there is no prohibition sign at the entrance of this very yard if you follow the route defined in the tour, which is what we searched for and then found at the exit as we walked on. All in all, this is an example of how you missed an opportunity to showcase and proudly present a product typical of the region. You can save the admission and walk around the outside.

It was not the salt harvest season, so obviously it was less interesting.
Moreover the museum included in the Award is lost far in the marshes and inaccessible.
But a passionate gentleman met in the middle of the saltworks wanted to talk to us, very interesting story.

The admission fee is really high (7 €/person) ! This price is not to visit the museum but just to enter in the site and walk in the park ! According to the internet site, this fee is for insurance !! ...hard to believe.
The guy at the reception (entrance of the park) is rude.....impossible to have a constructive discussion. I had never met such a bad reception !

Nice place to walk between active and inactive (old) salt pans. You can relax, see how they produce salt and also see lots of birds. You can walk alone or order guide tour. There is also a nice shop where you can buy products from salt (chocolate, shampoo, salt for bath…).
I recommend visiting this natural park.

if you never heard of the benefits of bathing in salts (first of all, which rock have you been living under) then this place will convince you that it works. It is a bit far from anywhere or anything else, This place came as a total surprise to me. The tour group I was with had this on its itinerary but didn't tell us until we got there. Great surprise. I really unwound here, soaked, swam and sunbathed in and around mountains of salt. It was super refreshing to soak in the high density salt pools (there are varying levels of salinity in different pools.

We got lost. Not on our way to the entrance called "Lera" which is easily found. Not in the salt pans at Lera, where the paths are clearly marked with lots of "stay in the path" signs. Lera is quite pretty, with squares with salt water, some nice expos about how they make salt and a gift shop. Do not expect some multi-media disneyland: it's roads between salt pans with lots of birds en special plants.
But, you ask, HOW did you get lost then? We made the mistake that we also wanted to go to the "Fontanigge" entrace where you could use bikes and there's a museum. On the map they provide you with at the entrace it looks simple, plus we had a satnav and a iphone with Maps, plus info from Tripadvisor: what could go wrong?
1: It's in Croatia. Or in the small piece of no mans land between the Slovenian and Croatian border, we'll never know. Lucky we had our passports with us.
2: Because of the borders there was lots of backed up traffic and a traffic jam.
3: The satnav, Apple ánd Google Maps send us first to a Hotel Casino.
4: Then to a small dirt road that was a special kind of bike path. Could see on the navi that there should be a river and a path next to this one, but couldn't find it.
5: Then google maps wanted us to turn right somewhere BUT there was no road! None!
6: We gave up. Went to Umag instead.
7: Saw the salt flats on the way back, but only from far away.
So: worth a visit, but don't do what we did!

It's a nice place especially on a sunny day, very photogenic. But it's too expensive - 8,5 € per person just to walk around and see a rather poor museum. You have to pay extra 1 € per person for an electric car which takes you to the museum (if you don't want to walk for a kilometer) and back to the entrance. There's also the possibility of bike rental.

Do not be turned off by the horrible entrance into the park. It is difficult to park in the vicinity, the signs are rather poor and there are some major building works going on at the entrance.
We visited the park on a sunny September day. The walk on the wooden boardwalk was fantastic, the views and the smells were wonderful.
You can visit a shop, a tavern and an excellent museum.

Great Place to see how we made salt for centuries without modern technology. Tried the special salt and it was amazing. Specially liked the salty chocolate

We're going to Piran . . . did you go from Piran to the Nature Park? We'd like to take a boat ride to the Park? How do we do that?
