Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Sabbioneta is an interesting little town with Renaissance architecture. If you are in the area it’s worth the stop, but don’t go out of your way. The piazza ducal is nice and very large lined with shops.

Palace of Duke Vespasian Gonzaga, often away in the various lands of the Spanish monarchy, leaving his wife in charge of the stunning building site of Sabbioneta.

The Palazzo Ducale is actually two separate visits (and two separate tickets). Most people come to see Mantegna's Camera degli Sposi (Bridal Chamber), one of the highlights of Italian Renaissance art. The visit is short, but it's worth taking your time - it's fascinating. The visit to the Palazzo properly speaking is another matter altogether - more than 40 rooms, with painted ceilings, walls, some of it great, some less so. For me the highlight here was the huge fresco of a battle scene by Pisanello that was only recently discovered. In the next room they showed the sinopia or underdrawing that they removed from bemeath (?) the fresco. How do they do this?? In any case it's beautiful.

...this building hosts an array of painted rooms and ceilings that is amazingly beautiful and a collection of wood horses and knights (5 out of the original 12) or rare beauty. When I visited, an exhibit of modern paintings was hanging and that added another layer of beauty to the place.

It's harder to track down the entrance than you might expect...once there, you are directed to the Bridal Bedchamber as the first place to visit. It is fabulous and the explanatory illustration to show what the paintings were about (the greatness of the Gonzaga family) was really helpful. But thereafter our visit was disappointing. Staff were very jobs-worth and trying to navigate our way round the other exhibits was unduly complex. One section of the palace was given over to an exhibition on speed, which wasn't quite what we came for. In comparison to other great historic sites in the region, a disappointment.

A ducal palace in miniature, with some interesting features, particularly the room with the remaining Hapsburg-style wooden figures on horseback, and the room with the elephant frescos. A little gem.

We spent a few hours at this magnificent palazzo. The apartments are fantastic each with beautiful paintings, silver ware, dishes of the period, tapestry and all well displayed and have English explanations. The garden is lovely and the tour fantastic. Yona S.

The palace may attract with its ceilings and some masterpieces of paintings (but too many). The other attraction can be a room with equestrian statues of Gonzaga family members.

I would stay in bed all day if I only had one of these incredible ceilings in my house. This palace is pristine and wonderfully decorated. A must see!

This is a big and well organised building with timed visits. it may get crowded in peak season , especially in the Bridal chamber section where there are the wall paintings by Mantegna ( they are magnificent)
