This was an absolutely beautiful place to go! The walk way is very well taken care of it. It has sections where you can crawl through the rock to get right close and personal with the waterfalls. You can do the whole walk, or just a short 1k to the first waterfall, which is amazing in itself. I noticed there... More

My daughter and I took my 14 and 10 year old granddaughters to Johnston Canyon today and did the half mile hike to the Lower Falls! The scenery was incomparable with towering snow covered trees, the rushing and ice filled river, a cave next to the Lower Falls and beautiful icicles everywhere. Truly an amazing and magical place.

I arrived the previous day, the parking lot was full, I had a car full of stuff that I didn't want to be broken into, it was mid-day (not good for photography), and I was in need of someplace to camp anyway, so I got a campsite, explored some other parts of the park, and saved this hike for the... Fairly easy hike with paved walkways most of the way. We got here early and parked fairly easily but by the time we had finished the walk and returned to the car, the car park was completely full, with cars parked for miles along the road. When we started the walk it was fairly quiet and we took some wonderful... More

If you like narrow, deep canyons this is the place for you. There is an easy track to the lower falls but some of it is cantilevered, so if you don't like overhangs, give it a miss. There are many photo opportunities, including a little tunnel behind the lower falls. This is a crowded location, so do get there early.... More

We spent the day in Johnston Canyon with family and it was very enjoyable. The hike was pretty easy, the paths are clear and paved. The higher pathway after checkpoint one narrows, and anyone who is struggling after the first half can easily turn around. Lots of people brought there dogs along, so if you have a pet they don't... Ok campround for an Rv. There is enough firewood that you can use in the fire pit. There is a train comming by often but we liked that. We walked offroad to the railroad to just get a peek.

All those who missed it due to Parks Canada autumn closure for improvements will probably get an even more thrilling experience when it reopens next season (2017). Up to now you could get pretty close to the water with often better views than those you can get at parts of Maligne Canyon (Jasper). Some of the platforms running close to... More
