Johnston Canyon Icewalk

284 reviews
Trying to trek along the frozen Johnston Canyon without a guide could be tough in frigid temperatures with icy walkways. Opt to take this guided tour from Banff, and see wildlife, waterfalls, and, of course, a lot of ice. Plus, this tour provides round-trip transport, ice cleats, a hiking pole, a snack, and a hot cup of cocoa to make things super easy on you.

As of March 2021, visitors are required to wear masks BOTH indoors and outdoors on Banff Avenue. Feel so safe visiting here. It's as beautiful as ever and has all types of foods, restaurants, bars, and shops. Nestled in the heart of the mountains.

It's a little sad seeing everybody in downtown Banff wearing face masks even outdoors, but that's exactly what a tourist resort must do - Bravo to the town for making hard, but correct decisions! Also, it's unfortunate that so many of the outdoor celebrations that animate the downtown seem to have been cancelled. But it still is a great place, stunning views of Cascade Mountain, lots of fab restaurants and shops, decent parking on the Avenue and nearby. Do watch those intersections: many have 5 cycles, one for each direction of traffic, and a fifth for pedestrians only, they can cross diagonally too, no turning cars, etc. For those who are able to travel, Banff should be on the "to-do" list!

If you're looking for the typical tourist shops and restaurants and such, then you won't be disappointed with Banff Avenue. Everything from local souvenirs to munchies and restaurants. Several places to satisfy any sweet tooth exist here (but $$$).

Lots of great shopping and dining options along Banff Avenue, and if you walk to the bottom of the street, you'll find yourself at Bow River, look back up the street for an iconic photo-op!
