If you are going on this trail in the winter, as we did, make sure to use boot cleats or boots with VERY good grip as it is icy in places. However, when you get to the top you'll appreciate every extra heartbeat you took to get up here.

Whether you want a great view of banff and bow river or you want to do a daily exercise routine this is a great mountain. Less the an hour to the top. Always lots of squirrel in summer.

This is a great and not too strenuous walk to get some Rocky mountain feeling. We were there mid-week and in winter when the trail was snow-covered, so it wasn't too busy. But for sure, during the main holidays you will not be alone up there. Yet still, because it has so many fantastic views over Banff and into the... More

Get ready for a great view of the Banff Valley. What I like about Tunnel Mountain is that it isn't over-crowded. Lot's of locals do their routine hike here.

Downside: if you start at the bottom, it is most certainly a steep, switchback step by step trek up. Upside: 100% worth while views at the top. We did this hike in the winter and the trails were packed down. If go in the snow then definitely wear spikes for your shoes, it makes the trail much more enjoyable. Will... More

The walk to the peak of tunnel mountain is pretty nice and chilled and can fit to all sort of people, you don't have to be in a perfect shape to do that and you will win a breathtaking point of view on the town of Banff and on the Canadian Rockies. beside that the trail is very clear and... More

This is a moderate trail - some steep-ish sections, but mostly just like climbing a steep street (you won't need mountaineering boots or poles). Might be a bit much for young families and grandparents. Generally a well maintained path. Views close to the top are breathtaking and you can spend just as long absorbing them as you did climbing the... More

Easy access from town (driving or walking), comfortable and wide trail, a one-hour hike up to the top of the Tunnel Mountain. Great views from the beginning of the trail. Even if you don't have time to go all the way to the top, it is a worthwhile trail.

The tunnel mountain trail is one of the shortest to do in Banff. Anyone who hadn't hiked before might want to do a few practise ones on there. The hike is steep at times, but doable, especially when you know there isn't long to the top. The view are truly incredible, some good ones before you even reach the top.
