Every July, millions of people come to Calgary's Stampede Park to take part in one of the world's largest rodeos and other popular activities such as chuckwagon racing and agricultural shows. The event's origins date back to 1912, when American Guy Weadick, a successful trick roper, got support to host an event called "Stampede" to celebrate the "disappearing" Old West. Since then, the event has grown drastically and has evolved into a celebration of the Old West, while reflecting the modern, multicultural aspects of the city.

Tons to do, loads of free activities all over the city, best summer festival in Canada. Sadly gate prices keep rising and it is an expensive day on the grounds. So plan well and make the most of it so you can take in some of the other activities going on in Calgary during stampede week. If you haven't gone...... More

I loved visiting the stampede grounds and seeing the show. There were so many different attractions to see and many places to eat. My group went to the evening show and we were all blown away by the performers riders and horses abilities!

A nice and friendly business type hotel in the centre of the island. Not much for children at the hotel except a large pool. But it is near other attractions easily accessible by taxi. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Open areas are comfortable. A recommendation to stay there on a short or business travel.

It's a must do if you are anywhere near Calgary in the summer. Great family atmosphere. By no means is it a cheap visit. Typical fair prices. You definitely get your money's worth. The fair food is always good. The midway is huge and lively with all the sounds and smells of a carnival. Amazing amounts of people so a... More

The rodeo is the best. Chuckwagon races are exciting to watch. The food on the grounds are varied and different.

The Calgary Stampede is world renowned for all the right reasons - as long as you're interested in cowboys and cowgirls, horses and farm animals, midway rides, exceptional music, and partying! High prices unfortunately go along with all that, no matter which part or parts you want to enjoy. Lots of showmanship, displays, marching bands and (way overpriced) food on... More

Last time we went we were pulled aside for extra searching and were treated like we were entering a prison. I've never been treated like that traveling through customs. It seemed a bit silly to me as sales were so low last year. You would think they would treat people a bit better so they come back. After being treated... More

You can always get tickets on the day of the Stampede. Sometimes standing room or high end...but don't miss out because you didn't get tickets months in advance. There is so much happening from the barns to the art exhibitions and excellent music, one day is not enough. A must see.

So you have to come to Calgary in July for the "Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth! Bring your western wear duds: cowboy boots, cowboy hat, belt and buckle, blue jeans and a western shirt and your YAHOO spirit. Come for the Chuckwagon Races, Rodeo, concerts, displays and special events not only at the Calgary Stampede but all over the city... More

It is a lot of fun but for the money you pay, you'd be expecting better rides and better prizes. The attractions never change so if you go one year might as well never go again because all it changes is the night shows and the bands. Only real reason to go is to go with your friends
