Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wow, what a beautiful hike! Amazing views of the glacier and waterfalls. Wonderful forest hikes with a challenging but very doable trail. Amazing scenery the entire time! Also, very clean bathrooms

There is a narrow winding paved road that takes you to the top of the mountain. Its definitely worth it. It was beautiful up there.
Once at the top, I will strongly recommend going to the trail. You get to see up close and personal view of the mountain
Simply majestic
BTW, do plan to spend 1-2 hours at the mountain. The drive takes about 30 minutes each way.
Also, there is no internet or cell service available. Of course no gas stations along the way too, so make sure you have gas as you go up the mountain.

Mount Edith Cavell is easily seen looking south from Jasper but also worth visiting. Renamed for the heroic british nurse in 1916 it's previous, rather clumsy, name was 'The Mountain of the great traverse'.

This steep, but short hike is so rewarding! Close up view of hanging icy blue glacier, cascading waterfalls, and icy pond formation. Spectacular mountain views as well. One of the highlights of our trip! Expanded parking area with best porta-johns I have ever used, seriously!

Mount Edith Cavell is named after a British nurse executed during World War 1. It is one of Canada's most impressive mountains.

Riding the road before it is open to cars is fantastic. Hard work but well worth the effort. Still some snow though...made it almost to the end.

The feeling up on Edith Cavell is somewhat of another world, and it's one of those places that you really have to be there to understand it. Angel Glacier is absolutely majestic.

I climbed Mt. Edith years ago and still remember the experience fondly, mountain sheep, bears and other wildlife abounded. Despite frostbitten toes, (I foolishly made the ascent in tennis shoes), I still count it as a positive experience.

Incredible to see a glacier on the mountain, lots of photo opportunities that you would be unlikely to see anywhere else.

Hi Elaine - did you actually walk the trail please> We were there a week ago and the access road from Wabasso was closed "indefinitely" for construction work. The park offices was not selling permits... I am wondering how you got there please?

Hi we couldn't walk the trail, we could only see it from the road. Such a shame as it was on our list of to do's
this site is closed based on parks Canada website. is it really so or it's outdated data?

Hi Anna,
Yes I believe it is closed. This is due to flooding that washed out the carpark. Its taking time to rebuild and I understand Parks Canada has closed all access by cars until the work is complete. Check the Parks Canada website for updates or befriend a Jasper facebook page to stay up to date for reopening of the Edith Cavell Road.

It is around 15 mins to 20 mins walk. It is family friendly trail from parking to viewing point. Most people turn around after admiring Mt Edith Cavell from here. After doing the loop hike, I have to admit that was the best view on the whole hike here. Well worth to wake up early and get in line to get a permit :)

Hi, you mentioned you picked up a pass in order to visit Mt. Edith Cavell. Is this a new procedure and is this mandatory for this year 2017? Could you please provide me more information? Thanks a lot. I appreciate.

Travel to Edith Cavell is greatly reduced this year. To limit the number of visitors, every carload must have a pass to get in on any given day. Our guide had a permit, so we went in without an additional pass.

We are thinking about visiting this trail next year with our then 2 year old. Do you think its a safe trail with a baby?

The walk to the first viewpoint of the glacier will be fine. Anything more I would suggest that you have to carry all the way as it is not suitable for a buggy

How long is the hike to the upper glacier? Is it do able carrying my 3 years daughter? Can i take strollers on the trail?

There a couple of levels. To the first point where you get a good view of the lake and glacier you could take a stroller and young child. Suggest that this should be the limit of your ambitions but worth doing
Enjoy

Hi, I am planning to go here end of June with my parents, both retirees (65-ish :-)). Will the hike be doable for them? Thanks!

The upper trail to the meadow can be steep in places. The lower trail is shorter and easier.

Can I bring my dog to this trail?
No you can not unfortunately. Due to Parks Canada Woodland Caribou Conservation Action, dogs are not permitted in the restricted area including the Tonquin Valley.
