Our Historical Gallery features many unique artefacts including David Thompson’s musket balls, the ice axe from Mt. Alberta and one of Curly Phillips’ canoes. The exhibits in our Showcase & Alcove Galleries change several times a year. These galleries feature exhibits which are culturally and historically significant to the area. In the summer of 2017 we are featuring 2 new exhibits, "Cutting Ties" in Jasper National Park. From 1920 - 1927 over 500,000 railroad ties were cut in the Whirlpool Valley in the Athabasca Pass and floated down the Athabasca River through Jasper National Park. Come and learn about this very little unknown history that took place in Jasper National Park. June 9 - November 9, 2017. BEARS IN THE ALLEY, this exhibit runs April 20th - October 1st, 2017. Read about funny and not so funny stories about local encounters with hungry bears who roamed the alleys of Jasper breaking into garbage cans in search of food. Visit our gift shop for the best selection of books about Jasper and the surrounding area and for locally made products. Summer hours: 10-5 pm daily. Winter hours: 10-5 pm Thursday-Sunday.

Children are not welcome beyond the room set up for them to colour, discouraged from seeing exhibits, not allowed to look through gift shop - not entirely sure why there is a family rate as children (my children are 10 and 2) are not welcome...More

If you're a history buff, whether of explorers or the railroads, you need to stop here. It's a small museum with the usual AV presentations, maps, photos, artefacts, etc. Staff are knowledgeable, helpful and not intrusive. Looking at the photos of the very early days...More

Your enjoyment of Jasper and its mountains will be enhanced if you spend some time at this informative museum. The displays provide lots of details about early explorers and how the area was settled. Be sure to watch the video, which is full of old...More

This museum is a great introduction to Jasper, its history and development as well as its characters, industries and social infrastructure. Audio-visual presentations and information boards are provided with well laid out artefacts, maps and dioramas. The pivotal role of the railways in the establishment...More

An easy walk from main street, Front reception very helpful and knowledgeable about some history. Disappointed archives were closed...would have enjoyed finding family historical information for our descendants.

Great gift shop with lots of local goods. The museum is very well curated and affordable. It's pretty heavy in history of mountaineering and industy but the first section did have some great first peoples info. The staff ate always pleasant and helpful. It's one...More

Although it occupies an historic building, the displays are modern with information that today's visitor is looking for. Jasper, for a quite remote town, has historical connections with many Hollywood celebrities and international figures, ranging from Marilyn Monroe to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the Sherlock...More

A small but more than adequate display of the area's early history through to modern times. Gives a real feel to how hard life must have been and how people overcame their difficulties. Audio visual is also included. As for the bizarre , war time...More

Although you have work a little to find it, this museum is worth the effort. Presentation was great, educational and entertaining, especially the exhibit about living with bears in the townsite.

This is fairly small like most other museums in the Rockies, however that said it has a lot of interesting exhibits and information about early pioneering years in the Rockies and at Jasper in particular. It also covers more recent years when people living in...More
