Maligne Lake is the largest glacially formed and fed lake in the Canadian Rockies and those remnants of the last Ice Age still cling to the cliffs, rest in the cirques and cap off the pinnacles of Maligne Lakes' fabulous ring of 3,360 meter mountains. It is the melt waters of those glaciers that give the lake its' lovely, tranquil-blue colour and that backdrop of lofty peaks which holds back the busy world and provides a calming wilderness experience.

World-famous Spirit Island, on Maligne Lake is the heart and soul of Jasper National Park. Accessible only by boat this diminutive icon of the Canadian Rockies is the destination point of the scenic Maligne Lake cruise.

The worldwide fame of Maligne Lake is historically and intrinsically bound to the art of Photography. Diminutive Spirit Island, resting in the hall of the Gods at the south end of Maligne Lake is, arguably the most photographed locale in the Canadian Rockies.

On our to do list whilst driving through the Rockies. We did this as part of the Brewster's package. Arrived at lunch time and booked on the 1230 cruise. Had a short wait then had a good 90 minute round trip with around 15 minutes at Spirit Island. Nice views on the actual cruise. Driver and first officer very knowledgeable... More

Yes, there are a lot of attractions and things to see while in Jasper, but make sure you take the time to visit Maligne Lake. Get there early (before 9am) to avoid the tour bus drop-offs, and have a little quiet lake time to yourself. We did the Lake Cruise, which was a great way to see more of the... More

One of the most iconic and beautiful place to visit in the world. This cruise will take you to Spirit Island ( a First Nation sacred place) where you will be in awe of the beauty of this place. You will be able to walk on the shore of Spirit island and take in these magnificent views. No wonder they... More

A trip to the Canadian Rockies must include a trip to Maligne Valley and a cruise on Maligne Lake! You can only do the cruise in summer as the lake freezes up in winter. The entire return trip including the bus ride to the lake takes about 4 hours. We boarded the boat from the visitor centre and within minutes... More

We made reservations for the late afternoon 90 minute cruise as soon as we had confidence in the weather forecast for a nice sunny Wed. in mid Sept. Late afternoon light is very good for photos. It‘s an hour’s drive and about 30 miles from Jasper to the lodge, restaurant (great coffee!), gift shop and boat docks at Maligne Lake.... More

Went to the Brewster office in Jasper to book my cruise as I bought the Summer Epic Pass. I printed my pass and left Calgary without it as I was attending my niece's wedding in Jasper and Maligne Lake was a side-trip. A young snotty girl at the front desk wasn't sympathetic and said that I needed my ticket for... More

We had planned to go on the cruise, however changed our minds when we got to the lake. Other friends did the cruise and said it was very good. Instead we decided to go for a walk. The trail started off from the carpark and followed the lake short for about 1km before turning away through a forested area. We... More

You'll need on planning to spend at least half of your day getting from and back to Jasper as well as taking the cruise itself. At $65 per adult and $33 per child, we felt that the value of the cruise itself was marginal. The total time spent on the boat, with a 15 minute stop on an island, is... More

Dear LochnessConnecticut, Thank you for your visit! And for this nice review. I agree that the blue sky days are the best. However, one of our senior guides prefers the dark, moody days where the clouds are clinging to the upper slopes of the mountain peaks and glaciers. I guess it's true what they say about beauty being in the... More

Staff were friendly, informative and interactive. It was a lovely sunny day out on the water. I enjoyed getting off the boat and being able to walk up to a viewing area, got some really awesome photos. Good adventure on a nice day.

We did this as part of a tour of the Rockies. It was a cloudy day which spoilt the views a little but when the mist cleared the views were impressive. You get 15 minutes on Spirit Island which is not overly interesting but you do get some good photo opportunities from here. The captain of the boat and our... More
