Located in the heart of the Royal City, Irving House is one of the oldest community heritage sites in BC. Step back to the 1800s as you enter the colonial home of Captain William Irving, King of the Fraser River. Over 140 years of memories live within Irving House "...the handsomest, the best and most home-like house of which British Columbia can yet boast..." was how Irving House was described in the British Columbian newspaper in April 1865. With 14 furnished rooms to enjoy, Irving House is a must-see for everyone interested in New Westminster's past and anyone interested in the Victorian and Edwardian periods, heritage architecture or colonial BC.

The guided tour was amazing! My daughters (8&9) were entertained by all the stories (about the bullet in the wall) and enjoyed using the servants' staircase. The tour guide was very knowledgable about the time period and the house. It's definitely worth a visit!

Happened to stumble across this place when out for a walk. Was immediately greeted by friendly staff who were super educated on the history. It has amazing detail and original pieces from the Irving family. Even my friend who wasn't normally interested in this sort of thing absolutely loved it. I would go again. It's a lovely little blast to... More

Too kind ladies dressed in costume gave us a tour of this historic house. We learned lots of history about the development of the west.and saw some interesting gadgets in the kitchen. The house dates from 1865.

I've been going to Irving house for decades, and when I have guests from out of town I usually take them there. It takes you back into the 1800s and to see how the upper class lived. Cptn Irving wasn't poor. Look for the bullet holes in one of the door casings - inside, see if you can find it.

Have been to Irving House a few times during the years. We usually take visitors to our town for a look at days gone by. The staff are very friendly and there is a lot of our local history to enjoy. Great for younger children to show them the history of our town. Great for any age.

Ever wondered how people lived lavishly without electricity, central plumbing, and internet? Come see for yourself. Beautiful wood work, carpets, furnishings, and interesting solutions for kitchen necessities (icebox, cooking, laundry, storing food). Come view a very well preserved home in downtown new Westminster.

Was there for the 15th birthday party. Who could pass that up? Spent 2.5 hours exploring the manor. Had some birthday cake, we all sang happy birthday and got to meet 2 of the great great granddaughters of Captain Irving. House is presented very well and has plenty of history. Careful of the stairs as they are period for 1846.... More
