About
This large sandbar and former industrial site is now a posh, artsy neighborhood filled with quaint shops, eateries, breweries, and year-round arts and cultural festivals. Located in False Creek, it's famous for the Granville Island Public Market where you can get fresh produce, gourmet food, and artisanal handicrafts. Visit during summer when the island is exceptionally bustling with outdoor entertainment acts, or during the holidays for twinkling festive lights. You can get to Granville Island by car by crossing the Granville Bridge. Otherwise, you can also take a scenic ferry ride, or a walking or bike tour of the waterfront. – Tripadvisor

Not for everyone, non shoppers definitely. Take the small water taxi.
You could say this is a little tourist trap, but has such eclectic mix of shops and markets. The little water taxi is the best way to get here, about $15 return if I remember correctly. There is so much to see and I really loved the market, especially the cake stalls. I can see how this will not appeal to all, but if you fancy a wander and a browse in various shops, then this is for you.

An easy bus ride from Vancouver
We took the Number 50 bus from Vancouver (just use your credit card to click on) to Granville Island. It is worth a visit. Make sure you have a walk around the outside, not just in the middle section. We had lunch at the Sandbar, which was excellent. Plenty of shops and things to see.

    Lovely position
We walked across Burrard bridge to Granville island. Lots of eateries and specialty shops. Be prepared to pay a-lot more for everything in Vancouver, especially food. Fruit and veggies at Granville are more expensive then in the smaller shops. The place has great photo opportunities.

    Fun and lively tourist location
Went to the island two separate days for water excursions. Fun location with lots of energy. We were there week days and pretty much was closed up after dinner hour; but Market Place was fun to explore and reminiscent of European Markets with some craft vendors thrown in. Great dinning restaurants on the Island as well as within the marketplace.

    Busy market
Pleasant enough place. Very busy at lunchtime. Outside tables were a bit grubby. Got there early and some things hadn’t opened. Worth a visit for a couple of hours. Plenty of little ferries or take the bus.

    Street foodies’ delight.
Something for everyone to enjoy food wise in the indoor market from full meals to sweets ,teas, coffees cute and almost everything between. I had an excellent double smoked sausage hot dog with sauerkraut and onions - delicious. Other half had noodles with vegetables which was also very tasty.

    Local culture and artists
Interesting shops, and ate at The Sand Bar restaurant and it was terrific. The Cloth shop was fun if you sew or quilt. Shops with Beautiful art on display. I was impressed they are building an arts center for kids there. Could have spent much longer there than we had.

    Busy Place
The Public Market is a busy place for locals and tourists. Lots of fresh fruit and veges, meat, fish etc for self catering or snacks, meals, coffee. Opens about 9am when a bit quieter. Best way to get there from Downtown is cross creek ferry.

Fun place to spend half a day or more!
Many unique shops, galleries, restaurants, breweries, etc. We loved the "Foodie Tour" of the Public Market! The Public Market has an amazing selection of fresh produce, cheese, sweets, charcuterie, drinks, meat and seafood. Granville Island is also the base for a number of tour boats, so it was easy to spend a few hours in the market and nearby shops and galleries and stroll over to the landing for our Zodiac Boat Tour with "Prince of Whales." Also highly recommended!

We went here to separate days and spent several hours including two lunches here. This is our kind of place lots of interesting shops from the manic main market to craft and more touristy shops were able to buy some unique stuff here we hadn't seen elsewhere in our Canadian/Alaskan trip, could sit at several venues enjoy a drink or coffee and indulge in one of our favourite pass times people watching whether it be around the entertainers in the main square to over the river with a myriad of little boats scrambling around. Huge number of places to eat.

Recommend 4 - 6 hours to do it justice.

So many shops, bars, restaurants and things to see here. So many cities have these now but we love them. Each has its own flavor and Vancouver’s was great.

Great place to mooch and meander around. Lots of shops and food places. Also, a nice walk around the outside passing the little floating village, lovely boats and a kids play park.

This is a fun place to spend an afternoon. Some typical tourist shops with prices higher than elsewhere. However, it’s the market that is the draw….beautiful fresh fruits and vegetables, beef, poultry, pork and other meats, cheeses and a huge selection of herbs and rubs. Lots of places to eat…sit down and takeaway.

Beautiful place with a fantastic food hall, several shops and beautiful stalls carrying a variety of handmade products, so much to see and take in, can spend a few hours just taking it all in and then a bite to eat and drink to relax

We stopped here for a while as part of a tour with Vacations by Rail on a bus. Would have loved to spend more than the hour or so we had as we spent most of that time finding a food vendor to buy some lunch. Great weather, lots to see and would be a fun spot to wonder around. We did see a glass blowing shop and a broom making shop! There is still a cement manufacturing plant there.

In March, my friends and I visited Granville Island in Vancouver, and it was a fantastic experience. We spent the day exploring the island's eclectic shops and artisan boutiques, each offering unique and high-quality goods. The variety and creativity of the items made shopping a real pleasure.

The Granville Island Public Market was a highlight, filled with an array of food stalls offering delicious local delicacies. We enjoyed fresh seafood, artisan cheeses, and mouth-watering baked goods. The standout was our visit to Lee's Donuts, where we indulged in perfectly fluffy and sweet donuts in various flavors.

After our culinary adventures, we took a scenic ride on the AquaBus ferry to downtown Vancouver. The ferry ride offered beautiful views of the city skyline and was a relaxing end to our day. Granville Island’s combination of excellent shopping, tasty food, and stunning scenery made it a perfect destination. Whether you're a local or a visitor, Granville Island is a must-visit for a memorable day out.
