About
Organized chaos is how some customers have described this store because of its packed book shelves. Still, staff know exactly where everything is, including rare first editions.

Book addict alert!
Dec 2020
The perfect stop for any book addict. Crowded, only semi-organized. Books in piles everywhere. The embodiment of the 'We have everything if we can find it.' shop. Love it.

Stacks and stacks of great used books on every subject you can imagine, and the staff can help you track down what you are hoping to find.

Ableist and transphobic
Dec 2019
The moment I entered they were making ableist comments, saying ableist things and were really transphobic. Don’t go there!

Many nugts to be found
Nov 2019
I visited McLeod's 2 times in November 2019 (I was on vacations from Brazil in Vancouver). There are plenty of rarities around, by you have to dig for what you want, even if you do not know exactly what are you looking for. I found 5 unexpect books on history, philosophy and physics, which I did not know had been published, For book lovers it a must go place in Vancouver. I will return, for sure.

How is this not a flippin' fire hazard?
Jul 2019 • Couples
We love books, and absolutely thrive on out-of-print treasures. None of this Patterson stuff for us; our appetite is a bit more eclectic. So, this should have been heaven, right? Nope, not at all. What it was is a pure curiosity of fantastic proportions.

However, the bookstore owner knows his stock as if he were a magician (which he would need to be to make sense of this dramatic iteration of chaos on steroids). I asked for mysteries by a favorite author (Anne Zouroudi) and he promptly directed me to where she would be, if the author was in stock. Yikes! How does he do it? Look at the pictures. There is no way on earth to make sense of this mess.

Well, we chalk this up to a peculiarity, abnormality, and irregularity of gargantuan proportions. This was worth seeing just for the spectacular level of organized disorganization on planet earth.

If visiting here, always keep an eye on the door out, just in case ...

Brilliant - incredible - a culture in itself
Jul 2019 • Couples
This is the most amazing place, a crumbling chaotic temple of the printed word, a celebration of books as a way of life, a repository that is both canonical and weird, eclectic in the most surprising and creative ways. It is impossible not to come away with a book - not to catch yourself trying to find a corner to read a book (without sitting somewhere where a stack might drop on your head), or to wind up without something that you never knew prior that you had any interest in. If you're lucky, the MacLeod himself will be in the midst of it all, buying used books, referring customers to esoteric volumes and topics, discussing folios, quartos or obscure local writers (often with these same writers), while shouting instructions to sales minions who are brilliant, cataloguers, orderers and organizers, and seem to have fallen themselves out of the pages of the books they curate. Give yourself a couple of hours and be prepared to toss some more coins in the meter.

Welcome to Organized Chaos

This is a place for booklovers who just love to dig for hidden treasures. But even if you are looking for something, the staff will magically no where to look for it in this avalanche of books.
The other shoppers seemed regulars as well and gave us some good book recommendations, too.
One of a kind!

Books, books everywhere!
Mar 2019 • Solo
If you are an avid reader you need to check this place. Large book store close to Gastown. Don't be in a hurry because you need to browse and you shall find a book.
I loved this store and was looking for a paperback to read while traveling and then leave it somewhere for another book lover. The choice is overwhelming, that may have been the case for the owner as well, because the piles of books on the floor seemed to indicate that, not necessarily stored in order. There probably are some gems in there. Worth a visit.

If you love old books - MacLeods is for you
Mar 2019 • Friends
I am here to look for old fairy tale books for my daughter. I seem to notice that older fairy tales has better illustrations, something that I love to look at when I was young. The photo inspired me to hone my sketching skills while I drift away in my imagination.

For someone who appreciates more detailed illustrations in children's book. Go treasure hunting in MacLeods!
