Do not do this in a day. It's 25km in and 25km out; a miscommunication with a friend had me do it in 12 hours (7am - 7pm, stopping for lunch at the lighthouse for an hour). Did this trail as a "Do something incredible!" effort, and in hindsight it was both incredible, and incredibly stupid of me to go... More

People looking for a RV Camping Site between Port Hardy and the Cape Scott Provincial Park have Problems finding any. But there is one place in particular i want to mention. It is the San Josef Heritage Park, owned by Doug. He is a very Kind guy and the Camp Site is very very nice. Every Site has a table,... More

What a fantastic beach to stay at! We just camped two nights on the sand and got very lucky with the weather, 17 degrees and Sunny for three days!! We hiked up to the top of Mt Patrick which is a rugged 1.5 hr hike through tree roots and mud but well worth the climb for the amazing views from... More

Did the 16k hike to Nels Bight and camped for 3 nights and did day hikes to Cape Scott and area. Was a nice change from the West coast trail in that you set up and tear down your camp only once. Not a lot of rain hiking in so the trail was decent with lots of boardwalk. Coming back... More

It's a hell of a drive to get here but it's worth it. Camping on the beach at San Josef bay is amazing. The trail to the beach is very good and you could bring a wheelbarrow or cart to pack in your gear. Would advise bringing your own firewood- there are slim pickings on the beach. Water is available... More

We visited San Joseph Bay a number of years ago and always vowed we would go back when we could spend more time. Finally we returned and it is just as beautiful, wild and pristine as we remembered. This park is quite off the beaten track and takes some planning and determination to get there which is why it is... More

We did a day trip out to Cape Scott and San Josef Bay. Wow! So beautiful. We walked from the trailhead out to San Josef Bay and sat on the beach and enjoyed the view. Nice easy trail through beautiful old forests. The road is a bit bumpy with rocks and pot holes but doable with a car, no 4x4... More

Wonderful easy walk through a beautiful rain forest trail. The amazing sandy beach is huge with much to explore including the caves and sea stacks at low tide. We were unable to get to the second beach since we missed the lowest tide to access it that day. A great place for a picnic and to soak up the views... More

Just back from a few lovely days staying at San Josef Heritage Park. We'd delayed our trip to avoid some rainy weather in the north island, even though we're truck campers. Drove in late Sunday, so no logging trucks. Back out late afternoon Tuesday, and only met one logging truck moving slowly with lots of room to pass. Guess we... More
