Visited here on New Year's Day, which admittedly was a special event. The foyer was lovely with a big open fire. We were able to see a small downstairs area where some photographs are displayed. A special display for Canada's 150th took place in the main room with a terrific pipe and drum band playing on the balcony. We could... More

Alas, we could not see the inside of the house as it was closed to the public on the day we visited. However, the gardens were beautiful, and I would have loved to stroll along there or enjoy a little sit-n-relax in the many areas of the garden. Some very nice bird's eye view to be had, also, if you... More

Right up the road from Craigdarroch Castle and in one of my favorite neighborhoods is Government House. The grounds year round but particularly spring, summer and fall are spectacular. The girls that I nanny and I love visiting and having a picnic on the grounds or visiting the cafe and museum in the summer.

I walk dogs and this is a great place for on leash walks around the grounds. There is a lot of places that are open to the public and not blocked off. I have also been inside for a Government House dinner and that is spectacular. If you work for the government 25 years or more don't miss the opportunity... More

The garden, cared for by a large group of volunteers (bias declared: I am one of them) is lovely in every season. Even when the oak trees are bare of leaves, there is hellebores, early azalea, and snow drops. In spring there are new flowers out every week, often every day. And there is always the glorious view over tree... More

This is the ceremonial centre for BC's Provincial Governor General. While the reception rooms and dining room are open to the public on certain special occasions (and combine a quiet but understated and friendly elegance with a great view of the water and mountains) visitors generally come to see the gardens which are well worth the visit; especially for the... We typically stay at Abbeymoore when in Victoria and really enjoy the short walk to Government House. The gardens are gorgeous and ever changing. The walks below the "House" have lovely views.
