This is my second “Painting in France” Holiday with Simon and Monica Roberts and it will not be my last!
I had a perfect 12 days in Morocco with “Painting in France” host Simon & Monica Roberts. Communication is key especially when you are organizing everyone’s different itinerary, likes and needs. Monica & Simon are throughly organized; their daily planned inspiring places to paint are perfectly timed along with delicious meals…and this is what makes this vacation/painting adventure with fellow painters so incredibly memorable.
The Riad in Marrakech and the Compound in Essaouira were designed beautifully with local architectural features, both my room(s) allowed me a comfortable single room with private bath.
Meal planning by our lovely host Monica are carefully prepared always fresh, delicious, & memorable adventurous meals.
If you have never done any art before and want to explore your creativity in a nurturing, encouraging amazing environment, this is for you. If you have created art before, this is for you too!! Through guided water color techniques, journaling and self reflection you will be making art that flows. painting your heart out and taking what your created in your journal back with you.
I would highly recommend signing up for any of Simon & Monica’s Painting in France Holidays, for truly an opportunity to travel with exploring and a purpose to create. This holiday was a dream come true. I loved it. I thank each of you from the heart.

This is my second trip with Painting in France. Last year I joined a group of painters in PIF's home base of Pouzolles, southern France. In October 2023 I joined them in Marrakech and Essaouria, Morocco. Our hosts, Simon and Monica Roberts are delightful and excellent directors - helpful, supportive, and generous. Simon's instruction accommodates beginners and professional artists alike. The couple's thoughtful and extensive preparation for fascinating yet comfortable sites to paint, fabulous accommodations, delicious meals and interesting experiences sets this workshop apart from others. If you haven't visited Morocco before, there is so much to take in that it can be overwhelming. Simon and Monica were able to cull the best experiences with an artful balance - a busy day in the Medina followed by a peaceful painting day in the famous Majorelle Garden; an exciting drive up to the Atlas Mountain foothills followed by a peaceful morning in the Jardin Secret. And on to a lush estate with a pool on the outskirts of Essaouira, the gorgeous seacoast town where we painted the last few days. I can't say enough good things about Simon and Monica - they are a great team with Simon adeptly leading the art side of things, and Monica making the practical side feel effortless, fun, and interesting - with great stories and caring assistance. I have attended and taught several painting workshops over the years, and if you are looking for a complete travel and art experience with friendly and kind directors, this is the best you could ask for.

I have always wanted to visit Morocco, and it was better than I had ever imagined. I was traveling with Simon and Monica. We were in Marrakesh and stayed at the wonderfully tranquil Riad Murakush. The entire Riad is so beautifully furnished and appointed. Our meals were delightful and so well prepared. In Essaouira the ramparts and beach were so scenic and breathtaking. Our daily painting sessions in both cities were inspired by carefully scouted locations by our master class professor Simon. Monica made fabulous dinners with fish freshly caught that day. I can’t wait for the next painting holiday with the dynamic duo.

This holiday was a gift after a long year of elder responsibilities and I was immediately zoned into the atmosphere, the painting, the nourishment and the companionship. Monica and Simon are kind and intuitive hosts who create a creative, fun and supportive environment for everyone. I am reunited with my creative self!

This was such a well-organised yet relaxed and creative week - all the preparation behind the scenes from Monica made for very relaxed painting days with Simon, whose cheerful patience and encouragement kept us all happy. And we returned from
wonderful painting locations to excellent meals, including barbecues, picnics, wine-tasting, restaurants and Monica’s fantastic cuisine. A great group of people and a great experience. Thank you!

Simon and his wife Monica were great hosts for this painting experience at their unspoilt village in South of France. After trips out with all painting equipment supplied, picnics and lunches to break the heat of the day and great tuition, we were spoilt with delicious suppers in evenings all prepared with local produce by Monica. What more for a wonderful relaxing, week away, other than perhaps to add some local wine and sign up for the next Painting in France experience. Ellie

Booked after searching for a painting holiday on Trip Adviser and reading a previous review. Managed to strike gold!
Organisation superb. Lovely blend of learning painting techniques, beautiful quiet venues, supportive teaching and much, much laughter.
Suitable for all who wish to learn about drawing and watercolour painting - absolute beginners and those who wish to improve their skills .
Simon provided all the materials necessary for the sessions and his calm and constructive tips developed confidence and enthusiasm.
Monica’s organisation of the accommodation and meals meant that we could look forward to evenings of great food, wine and long discussions, past stories and books yet to be written!
Thanks to Nikki for delicious breakfasts.
Lastly, a lovely group of people who are now new friends - great holiday companions.
And Millie for all her patience.
As you can tell I thought this was really rather a good painting holiday and certainly hope to return in the future .

It is a fantastic holiday. From painting, to 5* accommodation 5* food (food worth trip alone) but moreso the adventure with other guests of different , beautiful locations and experiences each day… vineyards full of history, lagoons like paradise and so many more. Then gather again every night for a five star meal, washed down with wine from local vineyards and have a laugh, together, as a small group of friends. Simon and Monica not only host painting workshops, full of positivity and support, but equally host fun evenings, full of stories, where all arrive as strangers, but leave as friends. I’ve heard hosts claim to care, but I witnessed, first hand how committed and invested these two are, in making guests experience an amazing time. I recommend you go, and you can be sure it won’t be the last trip you take with them. From the moment you arrive, till the moment you leave, you will have toured, wined and dined and not spent a dime. Now re art, I was a complete novice but loved the experience. There were others far more accomplished artists, many who had been there before, but Simon gave me the confidence and guidance to try.
Take this trip, cause you’re worth it.

I just recently returned from my incredible memorable week with Simon & Monica’s workshop, Painting in France. (09/10 thru 09/17/22) Allow me this moment to Boast about my experience.
I was notified by my friend (who had attended this painting workshop a few years ago) who asked if I was interested in going. I immediately said yes and booked my place for these dates. I will never regret jumping into this sudden decision and going.
The Painting: Everyday after Breakfast we take off to a different place to paint. Super places, villages, and environment to paint; you truly get to see & feel each place intimately. Simon the Artist/Teacher starts off with a rough sketch and then starts off with the basics of painting the composition. You get to find your comfort place to sketch and paint & pour yourself into your own thoughts and personal style. Throughout he painting process, Simon will come around and lend some helpful hints, find out if you need anything and give you gentle critiques along the way…he creates such a warm comfortable environment. The Seven other people in our group are/were incredibly gracious, fun & interesting people whom I plan on keeping up with and hope to see again.
Mornings: start off with fresh breads and croissants, (picked up that morning from the local Bakery). Fresh cut up fruit salads, granola, fresh honey and preserves, cereals, two kinds of coffee and fresh juices. (for those who like to eat later you can prepare a fresh deli meat sandwich on fresh bread to go.
Afternoons: Monica puts out a table cloth, dishes, glasses, etc…along with an amazing freshly prepared gourmet lunch in an amazing beautiful spot.
Continue Painting for the rest of the afternoon or if you choose you can continue to paint at your own discretion at the place you are staying.
Evenings: For us, our evenings were festive, we all had the chance to freshen up and enjoy the beautiful courtyard in Simon & Monica’s beautiful courtyard! Monica with the help of delightful Paula who added another layer to the festive atmosphere! Every night a Gourmet Dinner was prepared & served to us on a table tastefully & beautifully set.
Loads of Conversations and Laughter filled their courtyard.
I look forward to many more opportunities to Paint with Simon and to devour Monica’s delicious Gourmet meals!
I highly recommend any workshop Simon/Monica’s Painting in France.

I spent an incredible week learning how to paint in watercolor with Simon. He showed us many techniques and methods, that by the end of the week, I was fairly confident I could execute one on my own. Simon would bring us to various locations. We painted in plein air and thoroughly enjoyed painting all the different French village, harbor and beach scenes. Simon had all the easels, palettes and brushes set up for us. Monica made delicious regional dishes for us at lunch and dinner. They took such great care of us. They are so gracious and fun. We are excited to follow them on their next travel painting destination.
