It has been 35 years since I travelled the Cabot Trail but, fortunately, little has really changed. The local people are so hospitable, and the scenery simply knocks my socks off. If you've not "done" The Trail before, I strongly recommend you travel it clockwise - i.e., beginning at Baddeck or Nyanza and going NW toward Middle River, Upper Middle... More

We visited in June and allowed for 2 days as the weather was a little rainy. On the first day we drove counter clock-wise, but was mostly cloudy and wet, so it was not easy to get out and do much. We went to Meat Cove which would be interesting in the summer. Some artisan spots to stop at, but... More

There is some lovely scenery along the trail, but wasn't all that impressed. The road was terrible all the way, and a lot of road construction in the park area.. Glad we made the trip but wouldn't do it again. Actually found it long and boring.

Takes a god 6 hours Parts of the road not he best so must be cautious And watching for bikes and runners is a must also the odd moose might just decide to cross highway so best to keep speed down and eyes wide open a beautiful drive as scenery is the best any place

The Cabot Trial in Cape Breton is an incredible place to photograph the brilliant maple trees draping over the Cabot Trial. I was there October 20th last year and got some great photographs while hosting a photography tourin Cheticamp, NS

The Cabot trail is a nice drive. Starting off in Baddeck and going north to Cheticamp there is not much to ok at but trees but once you get to the coastline the view is amazing. Also doing the Skyline trail is a definite must. After the trail the drive goes up and down and when i was there it... More

Did the Cabot Trail one day in late May. Absolutely stunning scenery!!! Not all galleries shops and attractions were opened yet but the ones that were were very friendly and informative! We did it clockwise after being advised by locals that this direction offered the best vistas and we were not disappointed!

I have been visiting this destination for over 30 years. All seasons, all weather challenges. The Cabot Trail delivers. It gives of itself over and over again. Pure, raw, simple beauty. Breath taking views of mountains, oceans and wildlife.

YEAH!! I LIVE HERE!! I would be the first person to tell you there are many, many drawbacks to living here and the first person to tell you I wouldn't live anywhere else! Spring to me is a rebirth and nowhere is it more noticeable than on this fabulous trail. Such a shame potholes and look offs get no attention.... More

Hi there :),We would really appreciate some advice on the Cape Breton part of our trip to Eastern Canada. Apologize for the length of this, but i am really at my wits end on what to see and how to plan our route in Cape Breton which is part of a larger trip we are making this summer.

Would like to give a little background firstly.

We are lucky enough to have toured quite a few wonderful places in the world, and are always interested in experiencing new unique things to your specific areas in this case New Brunswick/Nova Scotia and Cabot Island.

We are planning a trip of just over a month this year around July 2016.

We start off in Newfoundland then sail 10 days along the coast of Newfoundland to Labrador - Torngat Ntnl Park - onward towards Greenland -

we then loop back to Toronto and fly to Halifax on the 12th July 2016 (arrive at noon pick up a car) we then have 11 nights (flying back to Toronto from Halifax) and would love to experience the highlights in New Brunswick/Nova scotia and Cabot Island.

We have read up on the area but i am finding it difficult to plan a route with travel times and areas to stay that would save us time (without having to loop back to where ever we are sleeping).

We are both people who very much enjoy the outdoors and who have no problem getting up early to experience a full day :) if there is something really spectacular have no problem driving to see it

Please bear in mind that i think by this time we will be full to the brim with landcapes/waterfalls and scenery so would really like to put an emphasis on the really unique things that we can't experience anywhere else in the world. We would really appreciate your input as locals regarding (for example) if you go to "a" you'd just be repeating yourselves by going to "b".

The things/places we really wouldn't want to miss are:

Perce Rock - looks absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopewell Rocks high and low tides - experiencing both

Tidal bore (i believe in truro but there are other places..)

Seeing wildlife - specially moose and whales

Whale watching - where would be a fantastic place to get up close and personal?

Experiencing the Ceilidhs with locals

Mikmak Culture - i believe on goat island?

Sydney - worlds largest fiddle

Kayak trip (shortish)

Sunsets

View of coastline from a boat perhaps?

Bike around (optional)

Please please please suggest a route and state that for example: you have to see "such and such" so give "such and such" a miss...

Some places that i have read up on:
