About
The Halifax Farmers' Market was created by Royal Proclamation in June of 1750, a year after the founding of Halifax. The Governor and Council designated a site for the Market - the present day Bank of Montreal building. For 50 years this flesh, meat or cattle market, as it was known, sold produce as well as livestock delivered from Acadian farms in the Annapolis Valley and from local farm production. In 1848 the City of Halifax was incorporated and the original City Charter conveyed the Country Market property to the city "for the public and common benefit and use of the City of Halifax according to the true interest and meaning of the original grant." The Market has operated in several locations across the city since its inception in 1750, but moved to the Halifax Seaport in 2010 where it is now known as the Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market - the longest continuously running Market in North America and proudly hosting over 250 vendors! Halifax Seaport The Halifax Seaport is a vibrant arts and cultural district found at the south end of the Halifax waterfront. Extending from Piers 19 to 23, you will find artisans, retailers, cruise terminals, event facilities, cafes, galleries, offices, a museum, a university and the Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market. This district has been redeveloped to showcase local talent and is now a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.

We came to the market on Friday, but once we got there, we found out it was not open. It's really just open on saturdays and Sundays, and the other information on the internet is incorrect.
We returned on Saturday and bought several things, like homemade jam, a giant cinnamon roll, and cheese. They had other things like flowers and bath salts and jewelry and honey, a good variety of things at this market.

When we were walking back from the market and got onto the boardwalk, we found several little vendor houses and got some really delicious hot sauce from a company called nurple. It actually had flavor, not just heat.

Just wanted everyone to know the Halifax SeaPort Farmers Market and "Harbourside Market" are two different places! The Harbourside Market is along the boardwalk (closer to the casino). The Halifax Seaport Farmers Market is at Pier 21 (where the Cruise ship docks). Harbourside Market is an eatery (lots of cafes/ mini restaurants/etc) Where as the Farmers Market is where you can pick up goods...fresh produce...AS WELL as cafes/fresh meals to go. Cheers!

This is a semi-regular weekend venue that we always enjoy visiting, especially for the varied prepared food available for consumption on site. The variety is endless and eclectic but our favorite relates to the South Asian fare. Absolutely delicious and lots of vendors onsite who provide tasty treats. The market is located in a part of the port area that allows lots of walking and site seeing at all times of the year for young and old. Parking has never been an issue. Tourists aplenty on a busy summer morning with one, or more often two cruise ships in port over the travel season.

Nice market with lots of food. Booths that sell organic fruits and veggies. This is where the cruise ships port, so this place can get pretty busy if there are more than one ship there. Lots of craft shops, breweries and eateries around.

We first visited on a Friday then returned on Saturday morning when there were many more stalls open. Don't believe anyone who tells you the market opens at 9am; we made that mistake and stallholders were telling us that they had been there since 7. Fruit, veg, wine and spirits, crafts, food to go, it's all there if you go on the right day. The Laughing Whale coffee stall looks a bit rough-and-ready but they have a big selection of good coffees.

it''s worthwhile goint there on a saturday morning and perhaps sunday, but other than that, other days there are painfully few vendors and even less clientele--Great idea!!--green building was to be an expansion from the old farmer's market in the Keith Brewery, but some infighting and location, and parking difficulties have stifled its growth. It's great to support local producers, and on a saturday morning, very important source of that, but any other day, not worth the visit.

Cool local scene- plenty of actual farmer's market stuff and with the holidays approaching lots of crafty cool gifts. If you are in town its absolutely worth a stroll and a coffee. Found a great tea shop, as well as some cool local rum.

The Market was selling there wares, and it really depended on the time of year you go, if you like fresh things. But the Alexander Keith Brewery is there and it is a big attraction to tourist and you can buy there clothing .

This was a nice small market. here was produce and crafts, with a few places to get something to eat. It is very convenient to the cruise ship crowd. We were there late in the season so I think in season it would be more lively.

Despite the hours on the door stating 10-5, only a couple places are open. We were really looking forward to getting breakfast here at 10:30 and walking the boardwalk, only to find out we had to walk the boardwalk to Tim Horton's to get breakfast as the entire place was closed down. We asked a worker at the lavender shop that was open and he told us unless there is a cruise ship in town pretty much everything is closed. Very disappointing especially during a tourist month like July.
