Shade's Mills has been called the best-kept secret in Cambridge. Favourite activities in this day-use area include swimming, sport fishing and canoeing. The conservation area has 12 km of hiking trails through a mature hardwood forest that winds along Mill Creek. There is good fishing for northern pike, perch, largemouth and smallmouth bass in the 32-hectare (80 acre) reservoir behind Shade's Mills dam. It is open for cross country skiing, snowshoeing and ice fishing during the winter.

Take the Grandkids Fishing

We took my two grandson fishing last summer when they were here from Halifax. We all had a great time and caught some nice fish. We will definitely do it again here next summer :)

Kids, dad and uncle had a great ice fishing trip and caught a few very large pike. Ice was nice and thick, everyone there was having a great time. Nice to see parks staff around checking to make sure people had the right equipment and licenses... If we take care of a spot like this we can share with our... More

If you want an inexpensive day to relax in nature, look no further. Entrance fee is inexpensive and allows full day usage. Hiking and biking trails, beaches, pavilions and a beautiful lake. We brought our kayaks and had lots of fun. The lake has lots to see on a kayak, inlets, a dead tree forest, even an island. Coming in... More

We are locals but we recently went to shade mills to go canoeing and loved it! Being doing it every single year and never have had any complaints with the place or staff.

$12 to enter!!! I drove in alone and it charged per vehicle. There were a lot of people who walked in and didn't pay a penny. It is gated with a ticket machine with no staff at the gate. There is no reentering privileges for this price. Conservation Areas are generally around $6.

Shades Mill in Cambridge, is so close. Has washroom facilities, beach and roped off swimming area. You can rent canoes and there are some docks you can fish off of. No motor boats. Picnic shelters and tables throughout the park. Nice spot for a family picnic.

The beach and grass area is smaller than some parks in the area, but nice and flat and clean. Very quiet as no jet skis on the lake. There are boat rentals if you want to take a canoe out. It would be nice if there was a concession and more modern washroom's, as the hut is not very desirable,... More
