Dundurn is Canada's Downton Abbey. It is definitely not a castle. Built in 1835 it is an Italianate Villa that was at the forefront of architectural style at the time. Upstairs live the MacNab family. Allan MacNab has a rags to riches story. Within a decade of arriving penniless in Hamilton he has the largest real estate portfolio in all... More

This place is great to visit especially if you love history. The place was well maintained and you get to feel the old days. You also get to try sample foods from the old days cooked in the kitchen. I also think that you can experience cooking but it is a different pass. We went their during summer time and... More

I love the effort and care that goes into maintaining the authenticity and history of Dundurn Castle. The tour was informative and made me wish I could go back in time to see it in a fully-functioning capacity. Our guide was pleasant and well-informed and I also enjoyed the sweet gift shop on the Castle grounds. I recommend going during... More

we do this place whenever we have visitors as location, exterior and interior are all special. The Victorian xmas is especially good and adds to the old time atmosphere.

Not knowing what to expect from Dundurn Castle, we stopped here on the way to Niagara Falls (to see the Christmas lights). Admission I remember being around $14pp (adult) and you can only explore the Castle with a scheduled tour (one every 20 minutes or so). Our guide was dressed in period costume and walked us around the restored castle.... More

I had the pleasure of touring Dundurn Castle last week for the second time this year. It's very well worth the price for the admission. It was decorated in Victorian fashion for Christmas. The decorations are simple but lovely with lots of fresh pine bough being used. The staff who conduct the tours are dressed in period costumes. It's very... More

Had been wanting to tour the castle for some time, and Christmas seemed the perfect time to do so. And it was. The castle was nicely decorated as it would have been in the 1800's. It was a very enlightening tour (thanks Rebecca) showing everything from how the very wealthy lived, to how their servants lived and worked. A lot... More

Thank you for your review! Remember to visit us in the summer months. From June until October our 2 acre Kitchen Garden is open. We have costumed staff working there, planting, and harvesting heirloom varieties of produce which is then used in our historic kitchen. More

This was my third visit to the castle and my husband's first. The guide was excellent and really painted a picture of life there during the time of Sir Allen McNab. I especially liked the kitchen and the complimentary shortbread. The guides here are so good I always learn something different every time I go. I would recommended the tour... More

We visited Dundurn Castle in early December, and participated in a guided tour of the castle. Since it was December, the castle was decorated for Christmas in an 18th century manner. The guide was excellent, and took us through each area of the castle and explained what took place there, and how each area contributed to the function and activities... More
