This site is the reconstruction of a typical Native village in the early 1800's. Their living quarters protect by high wooden walls. It tells us what life was like and what the Natives had to endure. Each year, in the same park is a war of 1812 reenactment.

We had visited this site over 20 years ago and we're excited to get a chance to go back, especially after reading thatcher museum and gift store had been added. We also had trouble finding it- several people in town had never heard of it. We got there at 4:00 and although the sign on the museum/Gift store said they... More

First off, it is difficult to find. Entering the address in GPS took us to another part of Longwoods Rd not anywhere near the park. Had to stop and ask for directions at a roadside fruit stand. Once we arrived at the gate we were greeted by deer flies swarming the car. Make sure you have bug repellant spray! The... More

Visited here with my daughter who will be in Grade 3 in the Fall. I also teach Gr.3, so this is the place to go to see how the First Nations people lived long ago (Gr.3 Social Studies). Lots of visuals and hands on learning activities. A nice afternoon outing. Watch out for the deer flies though, so bring your... More

location and access is hard to find which is unfortunate as this history village offers great info and history knowledge and is ideal for guests and rainy day activity

We did our family pictures there and it was a nice relaxing day with the kids, they had fun running around and the visitor centre was very informative.

This is a wonderful place to take family - there is so much history to learn in a fun way. Pack a picnic lunch and spend a few hours discovering what it was like for the Hurons when they lived in the area. The 1812 Re-enactment is also held within the shadow of the village and is a great experience... More

Excellent display of longhouses and aboriginal life. Museum is great for kids. Located in a conservation area with lots of walking trails and interesting vegetation.
