Centre island seem to me to be the only reasonable size island, where one can have a somewhat longer walk. We took off Centre island and boarded a ferry at Hanlan's point. There are tons of benches where one can have a picnic, but have to cautious because of the geese droppings.

You take the island ferry so that' fun. Go for the day and have a picnic. Check the weather forecast first.

Just a short ferry trip from downtown Toronto terminal located on Bay St. Very beautiful island with picnic areas, gardens, walking and bicycle pathways, bike and boat rentals, boat rides, amusement parks, public facilities include public restrooms, restaurants and multiple food, drink and ice cream vendors.

The island is a great getaway for a summer day with the kids. The ferry ride over gives you a great view as you travel away from the skyline and upon arrival the lush gardens and trees on the other side are soothing. Did the Centerville amusement park with the kids also and would certainly recommend it to anyone with... More

This Island is now designed for the cities urban dwellers although some people still reside there. It has somewhat of the feel of a Disney park without the rides and major attractions. The gardens and small beaches are beautiful and it is a great escape from the city but it is plain that the residents have been neglected in the... More

The summer is the best time to visit Centre Island. It offers a lot of attractions, especially for families with young children. It is best to take your own food to have a picnic or BBQ. There is a splash pad, a wading pool, a play ground and lots of space for children to run. If you are willing to... More

Staying in Downtown West

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
