The Ed Mirvish Theatre began its life in 1920 as a combination vaudeville and motion picture theatre in the Pantages theatre circuit. With its original 3373 seats, it was the largest cinema in Canada and, with its lavish interior - designed by the great theatre architect Thomas Lamb - the most elegant. David Mirvish officially renamed the iconic building The Ed Mirvish Theatre on December 6, 2011.

An amazing performance of a brand new production. From the get go this musical has you bouncing in your seats. It is the story of how Gander Newfoundland received 38 planes on September 11' 2001. Comedic, emotional but thou roughly entertaining.

We arrived a bit late for the start of the play so we purchased drinks and snacks before heading in. The Theatre escort helped us to our seats as soon as she possibly could. The bartender was extraordinary - we described what flavors we liked and she mixed up a one of a kind drink for each of us! Delicious!

We went to see Matilda and absolutely loved it. The show was amazing, the theatre staff were very friendly and the ability to pre-ordering drinks is brilliant! Highly recommend to anyone!

It is a beautiful theatre. When I buy a $100+ ticket, I want a theatre experience, not a movie theatre experience. Popcorn is sold in the lobby and theatre goers are allowed to take food and drinks into the theatre. Throughout the performance, we heard rustling of wrappers and chewing and the smell of popcorn. When the performance was over,... More

We are visiting Toronto and we were not impressed by this theater. The art on the walls is impressive, but the seats are very, very poor. My fiance is 6'5 and his knees were over the seat infront of us. They put as many seats in the theater as possible and most were not filled. They also do not let... More

Had a great time as a family evening out. My kids 10 (girl) and 7 (boy) both enjoyed it! We sat in the Orchestra row K and the seats were perfect!

we have visited this theatre many many times, dating back to the days of Phantom of the opera opening. what makes this theatre so unique is that it is like a time capsule in the middle of a modern down town. It has kept its charm and I feel like I can see gentlemen in their tuxedos and ladies in... More

The show was excellent. We sat in the cheap seats so that means the last row at the back of the theatre. We still had a great view and heard and saw everything clearly. Drink selection was good, food and snacks were ok. The lobby gets very crowded during the intermission.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
