The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.

We walked along this large park on our way to Mount Royal park. Unfortunately it was only about 20% full of water and lots of trash was visible. Imagine its great during the winter months. Lots of area to walk dogs or ride a bike.

I love this park. I play soccer there and have picnics regularly.
Bring or rent ice skates in winter for a really fun time skating. (Followed by a warm up at cafe on Rachel) Definitely the most romantic (and cheap!) winter date in town. In the summer pack a picnic and bring a petanque set (available all over mount royal avenue 2 blocks to the north for about $12) to play at the courts in the middle of the park.
Outdoor concerts, dance, plays and other activities are at the Theatre du Verdure. Bring a seat cushion as the metal chairs are bit uncomfortable. Don't be discouraged by the long line of pensioners 2 hours before the show starts. They've got nothing better to do! You'll get a seat don't worry. Google "horaire Theatre du Verdure" to get the latest schedle. There's a version here, but it probably changes:

Watching the fountain lights change colors in the summer is so relaxing and peaceful.

I can't say enough good things about this park. It's interesting to locals and tourists alike. Enjoy!

We stumbled upon this park by chance and ended up wandering around it for a couple of hours. It's like a little slice of England in predominantly Gallic Montreal : lush, scenic, not overly manicured or landscaped. The lake is beautiful, enticing one to gaze at its shimmering surface or be mesmerised by its fountain. And the Eggs Benedict at the Espace La Fontaine, the bistro within the park, is divine, if repast is desired after one's energetic stroll.

We had been walking all around the city, down by the waterfront, all through the streets and didn't find a single playground. After much googling and searching, we found this park and pictures of a fabulous playground.

We took a nice walk there from our hotel and took a chance we'd find the playground. After stalking some parents and strollers, we found it! Located towards the north end of the park and east of the 'lake'.

A fantastic place with four distinct areas. An area for bigger kids with a castle type of structure to one side then an area for smaller children. This area was all sand and perfect digging. And then there was a large wading pool/sprinkler area fenced off from it all.

The whole thing was pretty well shaded and well maintained. We had a fantastic 1.5 hours there playing with the children from the area daycare centers.

Although the park is conducive to meandering with a stroller and young children, the park is overall in fairly poor to average condition currently lots of muddy patches throughout the sparce grass with lots of weeds. The lake/ water way is currently empty for cleaning currently as of June 1 2019. Looks pretty run down and unimpressive currently for Montreal’s nicest park.

Hopefully the city is able to get it back up and running as the pictures look quite beautiful from past travellers however be warned that so far this spring they have not got it up and running.

Would have skipped it if we knew it was not cleaned up after winter yet.

This park is like a smaller quieter version of New York's central park. Go for a wander or grab a bixi and take a slow pedal. Plenty of squirrels for tourists to take photos of. Grab a classic poutine from around the corner, find a comfortable spot and relax.

I visited Parc La Fontaine on my recent trip to Montreal. It was an oasis of calm and beauty near the lovely shopping area of Plateau Mont Royal. About a 20 minute walk from the Sherbrooke Metro, along Rue Cherrier I think. There are two lakes, curved walking paths, avenues of trees, Bixi bikes for use, just a lovely spot. Looks like they have seating for outdoor summer concerts near the bigger lake. Very picturesque and photogenic, I took heaps of lovely pictures here. Highly recommended in the morning, before the shops on St Denis and Bvld St Laurent capture your attention.

A charming park, even on a brisk October day, La Fontaine has two adjoining lakes, a cafe that is open all the time, well-designed paths and lots of benches. It is said that if you see a white squirrel in the park it will bring you good luck.
