As a traveler i've seen a lot of oratories/ churches/cathedrales as i travelled in Italy and France, Ecuador, Spain This Oratory is beautifil to see from outside but i don't think you need to go visit. I was very disappointed by the visit. It totally lacks of typical historical charm. It's too modern inside and almost empty. Abiut the view,... More

We're sorry that your visit to the Oratory was not satisfying. Please come again and enjoy our gardens, sunset during summertime. At this time of the year, pilgrims enjoy coming on Sundays. More

Went for a nice romantic walk and to see the lookout. Ended up going indoors to warm up and walk around; it is a touristic hotspot, rich in Catholic history and a site to see.

We visited the Oratory some 20 years ago in summer, when we climbed all the stairs to the top, appreciated the view and tranquility, the grandeur of the church, and the artifacts inside. This time when we visited with our children in winter, we have to take the escalator inside as the stairs outside was closed because of snow. Not... More

The St. Joseph's Oratory is worth a visit while in Montreal - fairly easy to get to if you are staying in downtown or old Montreal. We took a taxi there in the middle of the day, and it was exactly $10. There are lots of stairs, which you can bypass if the taxi drops you off in the 'drop... More

Our motor coach tour made a 10 minute stop here which was long enough to take in the view but little else. As you stand in the parking lot looking up at the huge dome, there are 99 stair steps between you and the entrance to the Oratory. Although none were doing it at the time, it is said that... More

St. Joseph's reminded me of the Sacre Coeur in Paris. Probably over 100 steps to get to the cathedral. They have a middle section where people can walk up by kneeling each step. Inside was lovely and the view from the outside was pretty good. There was also an interesting walking path to the side of the cathedral that took... More

Other than finding the stairs a bit challenging its worth the trip as the Oratory is part of our History and it gives an opportunity to refresh our mind of all possibilities . It is about faith & hope as young mother I used to take my children there during those days it was much more popular but still today... More

Staying in Parc du Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Parc du Mont-Royal
Montreal was named for this hilly highland, where the tallest spot in the city overlooks its most extensive parkland. The greenspace of Parc du Mont-Royal is an outdoorsman's dream, with hiking trails and nature walks that cater to every season and level of athlete. In the winter, cross-country skiers, tobogganers, and ice skaters don their equipment by Beaver Lake and its pavilion, while the warmer months bring families and competitors to the pitches of Jeanne-Mance Park for tennis, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, or a dip in the community pool. A perfect spot for a stroll or a picnic, the forest foliage is dotted with sculpture art and offers views of some of Mont-Royal's oldest edifices, the towering St. Joseph's Oratory and the mausoleums of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. Home to musical celebrations and twilight snowshoeing alike, visit here to walk, write, rest, think, or just be.
