We loved walking the area although very difficult with the snow covered walk ways. Not good for those needing assistance! We did see a number of locals jogging, mostly up and down the stairs! Great workout? Cold for sure? Probably glorious in Spring!

Special views on backside for sunset & front side to see all of Montreal. Beware that starting at 5:00pm the traffic intensifies as people try to capture the sunset. Awesome view. Explore the graveyard if you have time. Hike away.

We had a lovely walk up from the parking lot - fun to see people out enjoying the beautiful weather! The views really are quite incredible from the top! Please note - from the parking lot up to the Chateux, there are some icy sections - but mostly at the top - there is no sand/salt down, and it is... More

I recommend taking the bus to the top, even from the bus stop it is a bit of an uphill walk. There is a rather large patio at the top and you can walk around listening to piano music or sit on a chair with the view of the city. The building is interesting with all the squirrels at the... More

This is a gorgeous park close to town. I walked from old town and although the roads were still snowy it was neither far nor difficult. The trail up the mountain is a gentle winding path with cross country skiers on their own parallel track. Great place for walking, skiing, tobogganing and skating.

Mont Royal is a must do when visiting Montreal. Its a nice walk up and/or Down or your can take the bus (11) to the entrance of the parc. The parc is beautiful... there are even langlauf slopes prepared in winter. The view you have on the city is magnificent. Nice pictures can be taken.

Cheerful place during summer to enjoy Tamtam players, youth and music. Sundays are the best to discover the Montreal crowd.

My husband and I braved the elements for a snowy hike up this mountain. We were not disappointed when we reached the Chateau at the top. We highly recommend it!

Great place to "chill" in Summer, walk up the Mountain in Winter to get some fresh air in a great setting. I enjoy going there all year.

Staying in Parc du Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Parc du Mont-Royal
Montreal was named for this hilly highland, where the tallest spot in the city overlooks its most extensive parkland. The greenspace of Parc du Mont-Royal is an outdoorsman's dream, with hiking trails and nature walks that cater to every season and level of athlete. In the winter, cross-country skiers, tobogganers, and ice skaters don their equipment by Beaver Lake and its pavilion, while the warmer months bring families and competitors to the pitches of Jeanne-Mance Park for tennis, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, or a dip in the community pool. A perfect spot for a stroll or a picnic, the forest foliage is dotted with sculpture art and offers views of some of Mont-Royal's oldest edifices, the towering St. Joseph's Oratory and the mausoleums of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. Home to musical celebrations and twilight snowshoeing alike, visit here to walk, write, rest, think, or just be.
