About
Christ Church Cathedral is the mother church for the Anglican Diocese of Montreal. It has stood on St Catherine Street since 1859 and has witnessed much of the development of downtown Montréal. It is both a place of beauty and peace as well as the home of a thriving community, working to support those in need in the local area. CCC is famous for the quality of its choral tradition and many concerts also take place in the Cathedral.

Christ Church Cathedral dates back to the mid 1800s and has played a big role in the religious life in Montreal. Located along busy Ste Catherine Street this Church has beautiful architecture and can seat a fair amount of people. Worthwhile attraction to visit when in Montreal.

We walked by this church multiple time during our stay and eventually made our way inside. Beautiful and historic, this church just adds to the character and beauty of the downtown area. One of many to stop and see.

The simple fact that this church celebrates diversity would make this place more than special. Greatness here is not in arquitecture, gold or huge sculptures, it is present in good vibes, good will, inclusion. God bless those who spread Love and tolerance as much as knowledge about any kind of religion.

Very nice Anglican Cathedral located on Rue Saint Catherine street. Built in 1860 in Neo-Gothic style architecture.

This cathedral is located near the downtown area and is a hidden gem. The outside architecture is beautiful and one can see the antiquities inside this cathedral. Admission is free. Certainly very highly recommended to visit.

In Montreal, the Anglican Cathedral is known as the "church on stilts". In the '80's the cathedral was in dire need of money and, more or less, sold his whole land to a croporation that built the ugly skyscraper in the back (on De Maisonneuve street). They also built an underground shopping center all over the place so, since their agreement was to leave the cathedral standing at it's original place, they dig a huge hole all around and put the whole cathedral on stilts! That was quite a sight and you might still be able to see some pictures of it in inside.
It was not the first brush of the cathedral with modernity. Since the church was built on unstable grounds the belfry was too heavy and was putting undue stress on the whole structure in the 30's. So the stone steeple was removed (it still stands in the garden) and a much lighter steeple in aluminium (made to look like stone) was put on.
The Christ Church Cathedral is not very large and looks more like a gothic English countryside church. You have to keep in mind that when it was built there was not so many Anglicans around (Anglican Cathedral was in Quebec city) and Ste-Catherine street was still in the countryside. For me this is really the essence of this church: the quaint charm of it, sitting in the middle of busy downtown Montreal but still so quiet and a very good place for a spiritual break or only for some rest from the hustle and bustle.
Also note that with the money raised from the land sale the chapter was able to carry very nice renovations and install a newflattering lighting system. Also there is usually short organ concerts on Saturday and Sunday afternoon (free) on an organ that is a replica of a XVIII Century mechanical organ. Finally a little trivia: the stained glass windows were made by the famed Arts and Craft workshop of William Morris that suscribed to the Pre-Raphaelite easthetic (i.e. very androgynous) so except for Christ and Saint-Peter all the saints are beardless and look not so masculine!

If you are just overwhelmed by noise from Ste Catherine street, from millions of people, and crowd, you just have to enter here and spend 15 minutes in pure beautiful atmosphere., lovely Church and excellent place for concerts. acoustic is great and perfect for piano evenings etc..

Beyond spiritual enrichment there can be few better means of absorbing & appreciating unique Canadian history than to attend a bi-lingual service at magnificent 19th century Anglican Christ Cathedral, where Queen Elizabeth worshiped when she visited Canada. Especially in troubling times, the ancient ritual & diverse cordial congregation combined to provide insight, solace & a highlight of our visit to this remarkable city.

This is the Cathedral church if the Anglican Bishops of Montreal. The Church is a modest sized neo-gothic building with great stained glass. It occupies most of a city block, and the precincts are lovely. There is usually a warm welcome for visitors.
The music is outstanding. The music director, Patrick Wedd, is a renowned musician, in a city known for its music. The relatively new organ is amongst the world's best, in a city famous for its wealth of organs. Often a casual visit will be rewarded with a student practicing. Services are a little formal and a little high, and are a great example of Anglican liturgical tradition.

Nice old church on Ste-Catherine Street. There is easy parking if you go before 11am. It is a small church with nice architecture and its own history. When I came on a Saturday morning there was an opera singer performing or I would say practicing. Check out their schedule because they have special concerts at this church occasionally.

Please are there concerts on Sunday afternoons? If so - what is the charge?

While not strictly speaking a concert, our sung evensong at 4 pm on Sundays does provide an opportunity to hear very good liturgical music sung by the choir and on the organ. This service lasts one hour and is also broadcast live on Radio VM (91.3 FM in Montreal) and on the internet.
