- pasowinePaso Robles, California5,364 contributionsBeautiful Old Montreal cobblestone street - perfect for strollingOn our visit to Montreal we always enjoyed walking Rue St-Paul. Just taking our time, strolling, people watching, looking into the shop windows, reading the various restaurant menus, and more. Yes it's a bit touristy, but still has that charm of a European flavor!Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 22 January 2024
- Kim RAjax, Canada43 contributionsCharmingLots of shops and restaurants line this street. A few too many gaudy touristy type places. If you have mobility issues, getting into stores will be next to impossible. I have a cane, and some of the stairs into shops are pretty steep with no hand rails.Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 August 2024

You will return many times to this street because it is very long, runs through the heart of Vieux Montreal, and because there is so much good food and drink along the way. Lots of historic buildings as well. Not a lot of traffic so the walk is relatively peaceful.

,, through the old quarter with limited traffic so still nice to follow. Many small independent shops interspersed with solid buildings. Much building work also taking place nearby.

The heart of Vieux Montreal, a long street lined with restaurants (many very good), cafes, art galleries, and tourist shops. Linger to observe the splendid old architecture. As ou leave the old town, the architecture changes but is still interesting. We walked along here many times.

This pedestrian street in Montreal is probably the most charming with it’s quaint shops and several restaurants. Certainly would very highly recommend visiting this street to any traveler.

when searching for this road do not just plug in Rue St-Paul Montreal, because gps, google maps, and even tripadvisor's maps will point you in the wrong direction. Rue St-Paul is somewhere an alley lead to the Lac des Duex Montagnes way passed the airport near Kirkland. The correct name of the street in the pictures is Rue St-Paul Ouest, or Rue St-Paul Est. This search will direct you to the heart of Vieux Montreal.

Having been one of the residents on rue St-Paul years ago, I never imagined reviewing it. The cavernous cobblestone street, bustling with tourists, boasts perhaps the highest concentration of tourist-themed souvenir shops, but also some incredible galleries, historic buildings, boutique hotels, lively rooftop terraces, cafés and eateries with international cuisine, a singalong "boîte à chanson" pub, and some truly inspired Québécois arts and crafts themed shops that are turning the tacky souvenir on its overpriced head. Living in this neighbourhood, with terrible parking, no grocer or pharmacy, somewhat of a jaunt walking from the metro and the echoes of drunk students singing in the streets late at night, it was not for me - but that's precisely why the heart of Old Montreal is so great as a dedicated place for tourists and visitors, and well set up that way. This is where the fur trade began, putting Montreal on the map as the fashion capitol of Canada. It's where the remnants of Montreal's fortifications, ancient arttifacts and original underground sewer system exist. It's where Cirque du Soleil started out on stilts buskering in the town square, which itself is home to City Hall. Indeed it's the reason Montreal is considered ti have such a combo of urban and European flare and where its roots are deeply planted in the diverse cultures who first sailed down the St-Lawrence River and settled in. Tips: Take the metro and stroll down or take s Bixi bike to get old Montreal. Wear comfy walking shoes, give yourself at least a half day to explore rue St-Paul alone with its many shops. If you need a washroom, I recommend the McDonald's corner of Notre-Dame and St-Laurent across from the courthouse. Finally always remember that tourist prices are higher than usual in this area, so if you are budget conscious, it's worth it just for a nice stroll through a must-see part of Montreal anyway. Enjoy!

Vale a pena passear na rua Saint-paul durante a noite? Até que horário? Qual o melhor lugar para estacionar? Qual o valor do estacionamento?

there is a small lot on the street itself. If you get there before 8 there is parking. Pay the attendant. The easiest, park on Sherbrook, car is safe there and walk down the 10 minutes.

Is there road work being done in the area as stated by a review?

Sorry I am unable to assist you with this question. I travelled there in February for a weekend stay so I am not privy to the road work conditions.

Hi. I'm wondering if this map is correct. According to the reviews, Rue St-Paul ( I mean cobble stone street ) is located around the Basillque Nortre-Dame. Can anyone tell me where exactly the cobble stone street is? Thank you.
