We needed a long-sleeved shirt for a chilly day. The independent clothing shoppes can be pricey ($100 - $500 per item), although we did find a shirt at Winners (part of the Marshalls chain) for $30. Fun to shop.

Its a small underground mall with a large food area and shops that engaged us for 20 minutes. The wine shop had no canadian wine !! but plenty of french - ridiculous prejudice. Best of all was a supermarket which was worth a visit.

Complexe Desjardins is a government working building of many different governments departments. It has a big grocery store, pharmacy, a mall of many shops for cloths, a popular gym as well as a big hotel. It is located in a great location because it’s close to Old Montreal and right across the street where each year Montreal hosts great festivals like the Jazz and Just for laughs.

My laptop has been stolen twice in this food court. The first time it was kind of my fault, because I left my bag unattended. But the second time I had my backpack behind me on my table and they picked it up from behind without me noticing while I was chatting with my friends. They took the time to open it and close it, and I only noticed it when I was leaving. They are very professional and they look like regular adults. Also they are often not alone. This happend, today (March 19, 2012). Both times I complained to security guards and they were very dismissive. The first time I had to beg them to check the security video, and the second time they told me they would check and maybe call me if they knew who the thief was :S I believe this was joint work with the security guards, since no cameras were able to see my seat in both cases. How come thieves know that? Think about this and be very aware next time you go to Complex desjardins food court, especially during rush hour!

These two 'complexes' are not only on opposite sides of Rue Rene-Levesque but are also linked by a pedestrian tunnel beneath the street. Desjardins (a mulit-purpose compex) is visually eye-catching on both the outside and inside whereas Guy-Favreau (purely admin offices) has a mundane exterior and a truly stunning interior.
COMPLEX DESJARDINS - will celebrate 40 years in 2016 (one year per floor!)
Lit at night in bright green - the colour of the Desjardins Bank - the four towers of this complex are among the most eye-catching of Montreal's sky-scrapers. The Complex accommodates 1 Hyatt Regency hotel, 28 restaurant outlets, 1 supermarket and 80+ shops and also government offices.
The interior is visually like the set of a sci-fi space ship - vast, airy and spacious. The Rue Ste-Catherine entrance brings visitors onto a concourse, on one side of which is a sci-fi array of Banque Desjardins ATMs quixotically beside the entrance to the Hyatt Regency, with the centre core open to the floor below, where the food-hall, central fountain, the supermarket and the pedestrian access tunnels to the Metro and the Complex Guy-Favreau are located.
The most interesting aspect of the food-hall is that while there are half-a-dozen food outlets, their customers all use the same eating area.
An innovative touch on the concourse is a cruciform 'bicycle-like' mobile phone charger that works when the phone owner pedals like crazy. There is space for 4 cyclists.
The northern pedestrian tunnel leads to the Metro Place-des-Arts. The southern tunnel leads into the atrium of Complex Guy Favreau and thence to Metro Place D'Armes and the Palais de Congres.
COMPLEX GUY-FAVREAU - 8 years younger than 'Desjardins'
Chiefly the location of Canadian government offices - Passport Canada seems to be the main user. The pedestrian concourse/atrium is dominated by two monumental towers - The East and the West.
A pedestrian mall seems to link Rue St-Urbain with Rue Jeanne-Mance. I confess I did not explore the mall to its full extent.
The rather delightful Cafe Delizia is located on the concourse, as is a polite but officious guard who informed me photographs were discouraged in Guy-Favreau. So, I'm not posting interior photos of the massive towers. You'll just have to go and see them for yourselves.
Take the escalators up one floor and head south-east. Out through the doors warning people of the risk of ice and snow! there is a delightful 'scape' of still water and cascades surrounded by flats - like a miniature Barbican (if you know London).
The lower-level concourse leads out onto Rue de la Gauchetiere and a small leafy park and a delightful fountain in one corner. Across the park is the Viger Hall entrance to the conference halls of the Palais de Congres.

Hundreds of stores over several city blocks. The intricate maze of stores is several floors underground while other floors are above ground. The entrance has this beautiful water display that rises 2-3 floors in height is lit in varied colors. You will find stores here for every need and budgets. An IGA supermarket is part of the complex. The food court offers dozens of different venders of every imaginable palate at quite affordable prices. I enjoyed a delicious chicken pita sandwich at La Cuisine Lebonaise that was chock full of meat and vegetables for less than $6.

A great Mall in the heart of Montreal downtown, between two major tourist streets Rue St. Catherines and Rene Levesque.
It is connected by covered pathways to Two Metro stations and a path leading to underground city and an exit to Old Montreal.
It is a nice clean three story high with shining clean and beautiful marble structures.
The main attraction is the shooting high water fountain right in the heart of the mall with the surrounding food court. The fountain plays out different motions and then after every five minutes shoots right up to the high three story ceiling, changing colors at random.
A nice place to sit and have a break, enjoying a snack or coffee.
All the major food outlets are present in the food court.

Absolutely a must see stop when visiting Montreal Downtown! Its a great location central to many hotels from a 5 -20 min walk!
IGA grocery is there with meals prepared or whatever you want if you are in a housekeeping unit! SAQ liquor store if interested! Many clothing stores including, Marie Claire, La Vie enRose, Bikini Village, R&W, shoe stores and really nice organized Winners! Good variety in the Food Court choices!
In the central area is a nice seating area always seasonally decorated. Great for the nonshopper while waiting to sit, relax and people watch for hours! Fountains with relaxing music ! Sometimes symphony bands or choirs performing too!

A little walk away from my hotel Westin, to the shopping center at Complexe Desjardins, i found what i was looking for: IGA supermarket. These are the kind of supermarkets i like to browse through on my travels, to be able to pick up food stuff for my kitchen back home. Apart from the supermarket, the Complexe does have it's fair share of shops most of which (clothes, kitchenware, electronics, food, etc.) i gave a miss. But i did have a nice late breakfast of a very reasonably price sushi plate, which was great.

We enjoyed our visit to this site. We were pleasantly pleased to see the large IGA store which has a huge variety of specialty foods. (Check out lines were long, however.)

There is a clothing shop right at the main entrance on St Catherine that as really funky clothing for women and men and there are a few different stores inside that are not your run of the mill chain stores.
