La Fresque Des Quebecois is a trompe l’oeil mural depicting the history of Quebec City featuring famous figures in the city’s history such as Jacques Cartier and Samuel de Champlain. It is so realistic, colorful and beautiful. I loved seeing this on our second visit to Quebec City just as much as I did on our first visit. It is very impressive and a must-see on a visit to Quebec City.

Québec City is home to several fresco wall paintings that depict its rich history and that of its inhabitants in an original and appealing manner.
mainly of historical nature
Painted in 1999, La Fresque des Québécois is the first of the mural paintings.
It reach nearly three stories high and 4,520 sq feet (420 sq meters) in size, the Quebec City Mural is the largest and most historical trompe l'oeil in Old Quebec, found in an iconic location in Petit Champlain district. This colossal painting vividly illustrates the 400+year history of Quebec City and its important figures. The history behind it is interesting. The mural features individuals who either are from Québec or have a significance to the city. There are signs available on site explaining who each individuals are.

This huge fresco is located in the lower town at the bottom of the mountain.
There are similar ones in Lyon or Valence and it is perfectly successful.
It is advisable to start your visit to the city with this fresco because it allows a review (or a discovery) of the great characters of New France.
Take a look at the desk that numbers each celebrity to help you identify them.
Despite the crowds, you can try to take some nice photos if necessary of the street going down to have enough perspective.

A magnificent piece of artwork telling the story of Quebec, essentially in one glance. This art en trompe-l'oeil masterpiece provides the viewer a history lesson about Quebec City, ranging from influential and important people to events to an artistic interpretation of each season in Quebec City. The wall is a focus in the art, demonstrating its importance. Everything from a calèche to a couple in love, everything that one might see or find in Quebec City is represented. For those extra interested, there is actually a scavenger hunt that you can work at to find some items that are not so clear to the eye. Can you find the marching ants? The cat? The hidden cat's eyes? Are you able to identify all of the people depicted? That's right: Samuel de Champlain is front and center. This is HIS city of course. He should be front and center. The fresco is amazing in photos; it's even more amazing in person. Walk about 100 paces out of Place Royale (by the King Louis XIV statue) and turn to the left. You can't miss this artistic and architectural masterpiece.

We've been told about this mural prior our visit and we had a bit trouble to find it. The reason was that there was some work going on the road. Nevertheless what we saw we liked. It's just beautiful example how the story of the city could be told via painting.

The large mural of Quebec in Lower Quebec was unveiled to the public in 1999. It is like a real street scene, vividly describing the history of Quebec City and life in the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter, and paying tribute to many people who have made important contributions to Quebec in the painting. . There is a small square in front of the large mural, where street performers often play accordion or perform other performances, adding to the cultural and artistic atmosphere.

A fabulous fresco painted onto the side of the building. It is huge. Hard to get a great angle on it for photos but the detail is amazing. You can also get good views as you walk up the road to the upper town

I had read about this mural and put it on my list of things to see. I couldn't tell how difficult it was to find. It was very easy as the lower town is really a small area. There was a bench in hte little plaza that I sat at and admired it. Be sure to vist the other big mural in the area
