About
These 275-foot falls on the Montmorency River tower higher than even the legendary Niagara Falls. The 2013 season promises to be exhilarating for people who will visit Parc de la Chute-Montmorency – Montmorency Falls, the second most visited site of the provincial capital after Old Quebec. The highlight of all the new summer activities is certainly the opening of two via ferrata routes built in the Boischatel fault near the waterfalls. Via ferrata – this is Italian for “iron roads” - is an activity accessible to everyone over 12 years old that combines hiking and rock climbing. The two paths are built on the rock face on the eastern side of the waterfall. The less adventurous will also be able to get stunning views of the 83-meter high waterfall aboard the cable car which now runs with sparkling new cabins. History buffs will be glad to know that guided tours are now offered each weekend in the company of Sir Frederick Haldimand, who served as Governor of Quebec from 1778 to 1786 and Mathilde Robin, best known as the Lady in White, who lost her fiance during the Montmorency Battle in 1759. Guided tours are offered in French or English until Labour Day weekend.

- Gary R3 contributionsBeautiful ride, nice fallsMontmorency Falls is beautiful. You can spend a few minutes or a few hours there. We were renting bikes, so only had about 30 minutes, but put our feet in the water and enjoyed the beautiful view. They have walkways you can walk atop the falls which would be fun if you have time.Visited August 2022Written 14 December 2022
- jahhpLos Angeles, California634 contributionsGreat Nature!I had read about these falls in a guidebook, so I suggested to my partner that we visit them at some point during our stay. We ended up figuring out the bus and used that as our mode of transportation. There's a stop nearby, so it worked out very well. We didn't arrive until early evening and it was dark, but I have to say (this, without seeing them in the daytime), that they might be more interesting to see at night (see my photos below)! We walked around a bit, crossed the suspension bridge (very interesting to go right OVER the falls), and walked down to the lookout post. Amazing to see Mother Nature at work...the rush & roar of the water is incredible. There is probably more to do/see during the daytime (walking paths), but I have no regrets seeing it at night.Visited October 2022Written 9 January 2023
- Simon BEly, United Kingdom816 contributionsFrozen but not completelyA spectacular park even in the midst of winter. Whilst few of the activities were available the sight of this semi frozen fall was something to behold and well worth the journey on the 800 bus from the city. - Clarice GMadison, New Hampshire264 contributionsWaterfall freezing over in February 2023we've been here in the past, mid-summer many years ago. Still have a fee to get in but we wondered what the fee is when everything is open. The cable car was not running and you could not walk on the sides due to ice and snow (perfectly understandable). It's a beautiful view and we passed it every time we left our condo to drive into Quebec. Amazing to see the falls so narrow due to the ice build up. At the end of the week with a couple warmer days the falls were wider due to snow melt. Very clean building. Staff very informative in answering our questions about getting around in that area.Visited February 2023Written 25 February 2023
- Anita1439404Bransgore, United Kingdom359 contributionsBeautiful falls.Visited the falls on a sunny morning. We parked in the lower car park and walked to viewpoints of the falls. We were disappointed that the cable car was not running so were unable to get photos from it. Consequently we had to drive round to the top car park to see the falls from the suspension bridge across the falls. Do try to visit if in Quebec.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 May 2023
- Stacey PAtlanta, Georgia136 contributionsSo close to Quebec CityWe traveled here on our way back to Montreal. It is a little north of Quebec City so it didn't add a ton of time to our trip and was worth the effort. The area around the parc has been done really well. We have lunch at the restaurant.Visited May 2023Written 25 May 2023
- Brendan SArlington, Virginia1,576 contributionsNatural beauty marred by tourist additionsMontmorency Falls are taller than Niagara Falls and have a powerful flow. Unfortunately, they have taken a cue from Niagara Falls and commercialized it to the utmost with cable cars and zip lines and other experiences. Most problematic is that a huge set of stairs and a bridge right over the Falls detract from the natural appearance. The stairs could have been erected out-of-sight, and a bridge on top of a waterfall of this significance just shouldn’t have been permitted.Visited July 2023Travelled soloWritten 3 July 2023
- RyTyKitchener, Canada44 contributionsHot hike and great views! We went on a HOT day in July 2023. It was $22 for parking and for two adults to enter the park. The cable car was an additional fee, but we didn’t do it. We really loved the views from the rest of the park. We spent about two hours at the park, walking along the suspension bridge and the giant staircase that looks over the falls. We felt is worth the admission price. Bring a water bottle, snack foods and proper walking shoes.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 July 2023
- DLBVTWestford, Vermont40 contributionsJust okWe just purchased general admission and walked over the falls on a walking bridge, it was fine. there is a concrete structure on one side at the top which to me marred the natural environment. You're seeing the highway right below so overall I don't think it was worth it.Visited June 2023Written 11 July 2023
- FREPLUGMacomb, Michigan597 contributionsWorth the trip outThere is nothing more beautiful than natures true beauty. The falls are well maintained (area around) and offer visitors the chance to experience the raw beauty and power of mother nature. It takes a small amount of walking and effort to get to the bridge over the falls but the view is well worth it. One does not need too much time here, an hour or so is sufficient, but it will be an hour well spent. Great for photos or just to be outside this is a place all should see!Visited September 2022Written 14 July 2023

We enjoy waterfalls and hiking and Montmorency offers both. We started in the Parc, hiked across the top of the falls, then down to the cable car for the uphill ride. We would recommend this route for older travelers like us. The fall colors were gorgeous. Lots of bright red maple leaves.

We really enjoyed our trip to the Montmorency Falls. We bought a bus ticket from the Jack and Jill shop, at $3.25 each and caught the 800 bus from the city centre to the falls. The bus took about 40 minutes to reach the terminus, a few minutes walk from the entrance to the top of the Falls.
We paid just over $6 dollars entrance fee and $ 16 for the cable car.
There was a great view from the suspension bridge.
Next we took the cable car down to the promenades and spent a few hours strolling and admiring the views.
There was a small gift shop, cafe and toilets where we got off the cable car.
It was a very good experience and would definitely recommend a bus trip to the Falls if you are visiting Quebec.

It was spectacular. A must-see when you’re visiting Quebec. Take the cable car going up and take the stairs on your way down. The view was amazing, either looking down or up.

A great experience from start to finish.
Parked at the foot of the falls and took cable car to the top, then walked over the bridge and back down the steep steps on the other side.
Saw two guys fishing in the shallow water beneath the falls, thought they were walking on water!
Kiosk at the top was closed, probably because of the mandatory 2 hour lunch …
Falls not that dramatic but high so a fun couple of hours.

The fall colors were great, but the waterfall itself was rather lame. In order to get a view from the bottom of the falls, you either had to navigate a treacherous and quite lengthy stairway (foreground in the photo), or else pay EXTRA money to ride the cable car down to the bottom. The whole waterway seemed quite man-made, and did not have the appearance that a real, natural waterfall would have. The top portion of the waterway is all concrete channel. You can get as good a view of the falls from the highway below the falls and save yourself about $40 CDN. There were no concessions within the park, and not much else to do.

We travelled individually to the falls and found it a bit disturbing that for parking our car we had to pay a price per person and not per car. So parking for two people was CAD 38.-- and for the cable car an additional CAD 30.-- was due. Certainly, the falls are quite impressing, but we felt ripped off.

The Falls are spectacular. The park has several ways to observe the Falls, from top and bottom. One walking route is extremely vigorous involving 487 stair steps. The view from the bridge right over the falls is excellent.
You can access the stair route, the cable car, and the bridge from any of the three parking areas. The lower level parking area at the bottom of the cable car is the most crowded.
The Park is constructed such that you can get many great views of the Falls.
If you are a serious rock climber, there is a good site next to the Falls.
I did not see formal tours, we and most people chose what to observe and where to go.

We were staying in Quebec, without a car. We caught the #800 bus out to the falls. Very easy and cheap at $3.75 pp each way. Doing this gave us the flexibility to do what we wanted at the falls and stay as long as we liked.
We started at the entrance near the bus terminus, walked across the suspension bridge across the top of the falls, then down the stairs on the other side, looked at the shop at the bottom entrance, then caught the cable car back up to near the entrance where we came in, had a look at the shop up there before walking out to catch the bus back into town.
Hence we did a full circle. You pay an entry fee to the park, and there is an extra fee to use the cable car. The cable car was disappointing - it is really just a means to get back up (or down) if you want to do the full circuit. We did the loop in a clockwise direction, as it was easier to go down the stairs than climb up them.
Easy to do the falls on your own, without the expense of a tour. A nice enjoyable half day excursion if you are staying in Quebec City.

This falls were a nice surprise because they were so close to the city and easy to get to and from. We were there on a dreary September day so the crowds were slim, I understand it had been pretty crazy the day before. It's a nice getaway from the city and good to get some exercise in, the falls are quite pretty!

We bought a ticket at the tourist information office with a bus company (unibus I think) to go to see the waterfalls. When compared against doing it by public transport, there was hardly anything in it, so it seemed an easier option to book with this company. The price was in the region of $60 return, for the two of us, which included entry into the park (but not the cable car, that is extra).
You will see plenty of red buses going around the city, which belong to the same company, its a blue line that you need for this trip and when you book its clear where the bus stop is. The only thing is, at that location there are no signs to indicate where the blue bus stops, no staff managing things, drivers of the other red buses who stop there are not overly helpful in explaining what the arrangements are. We did establish that it was a bus 55 ( which wasn't blue....as per the instructions and brochure) and when it arrived it was a scrum to get aboard. Once on the bus things chill, the site is no more than 20 mins away. It's a scenic via driving beside the St Lawrence River and the falls are worth visiting. Anyone who maybe a little unfit I'd recommend taking the cable car to get up to the park where you gain access to the suspension bridge over the falls. Tickets for this can be bought in the ground level building, $14 return. There is a cafe in the park and a nice walk, good views. It is well worth a visit. I did wonder how much an Uber would be to get out there. But this wasn't a bad option if you put aside the lack of organisation.

We used 2490 Ave Royale. The Parc is set up as a loop so we walked down the stairs and then used the air tram to get back to the top lot again. I’m not sure if you can re-enter the bottom lot if you park up top. Definitely worth a visit!

We drove to the Falls. However, I understand that there are bus tours avaialble from Quebec City. A train ride is another option. You need to enquire whether these options are still available given the covid situation. I do hope you get to visit; it's certainly worth it especially being able to walk over the fall via the bridge where you can feel the roar and might of the falls. The immediate surroundings are delightful too. Good luck.

Is this safe for little children? We won't be able to do to much walking with them but are we able to still see the falls in a short visit? Or is there a long hike to get to the falls? I'm seeing mixed pricing, how much for entrance and parking fees?
bonjour, you can have access to the bridge from the parking with a maximum walk of 10 minutes. The regular price is 8$ per adult( including taxes) and free for kids. The parking fee is 4$ ( including taxes). You are more than welcome. There is a dairy counter and a food truck on site.

Old Town, ME41 contributions
The first nations tribes in the area of Quebec are several - with Cree and Naskapi in the north of Quebec and the Algonquin in the south and the Huron in the west. To the east (not sure of Champlain's involvement with those tribes) were the Micmaq, the Abanaki, the Penobscot, the Montagnais (Innu), and the Malecite.
