The ruins are well maintained and easy to reach. I also definitely suggest to use Ludza Castle app which tells and shows you how was it back then.

Historical place with some ruins. Worth a stop and taking a look of this ancient place, if interested in history.

Ludza is the eldest city in Latvia, it was mentioned in chronicle in 1177, 24 year earlier than Riga. From the top of the castle mound anyone can enjoy amazing sightseeing

But it shouldn't be the aim of your visit. What I liked more is Ludza town. It is very clean, calm, with many interesting monuments and flowers.

As only a couple of walls are still standing, this 'castle' is certainly not worth the detour. But if you're near, you might as well stop for three minutes or so.
