At the mount of Masao river, the Magellan's anchorage stands. It is a site claimed Magellan landed in the Philippines. Now it has been sited here at Masao near entrance to the Masao River.

Interesting, but out of the way and very hard to find. It's old and falling apart. BUT it is an important part of history.

We had the pleasure of visiting several of Magellan's historic sites throughout the Philippines during the trip, and this one certainly didn't disappoint. If you're into history at all, it's certainly worth the stop!

I had no idea that Magellan landed here first and now I understand that he used the inlet of the Agusan river as shelter for his journey. Well worth a look.
