About
Het Mijnmuseum tells the story of the mines and mining in Limburg. The new museum opened in april 2012 and is highly interactive, with testimonials, a huge touchscreen and lots of audio and moviefragments. There is also the possibility to visit the underground simulation with an enthousiastic guide (ex-miner) to experience how the mineworkers had to work. There are programs for families, groups and schools.

The museum itself is very interesting, with the support of the audio tour a lot of knowledge was gained about the mine and its history. We also did a simulation, we were taken into the world of miners. What did the work underground look like, what dangers were there, etc. All this told by a real old miner. Great experience, great museum!

Impressive introduction to the country's industrial past! Nice tour, led by a former winemaker. The presentation and the puppets sometimes look a bit corny, but the general atmosphere creation is OK. Fun to experience!

Very nice and surprising visit. Frankly had few expectations of it. But very nice tour downstairs from Bert. Very enthusiastic and interesting, he also involved the children in the group well, so that it remained interesting for them as well.
Also very nice museum, also for children, through an iPad and assignment booklet walked throughout the museum.
Afterwards also a small snack and a drink. The Koolputter is a local beer and definitely recommended.

A very interesting museum, where everything about the coal mines in the Beringen mine is explained.
Particularly recommended are the three excursions that are held underground together with an old miner. Everything is explained very well.

We had a group of 10 people, including 1 child under 12 years old. Our guide (Johan) was extremely friendly and clearly understandable.
He had a lot to say and he could answer all our questions.
What a great afternoon and definitely worth it!

The site is beautiful, the museum itself is in need of renovation. The experience remains the same for years and the old men behave like dangerous watchdogs. I found them surly and not very hospitable. A little rejuvenation and a different approach can do wonders here.

A visit at the "Mijnmuseum" in Beringen can give you a good picture of the industrial history of the area. A lot of ancient used machines from big to small are on display, sometimes in a diarama, in the historical buildings of the mine. The site is marked and visual from a far by the former elevator and vapor towers that are recently renovated. A tour with a guide is highly recommended, very often the guides are former coalminers who are full of stories and well informed about the history of the mines. A hike on the adventure hill on the site will reward you with a panoramic view on the surrounding area.

The museum shows the conditions, material and history of coalmining in the area. On the site they still have several buildings that you can walk around in with a tour guide. I love the place as I try to visit it several times for its industrial architecture and the grandure of the industry.

A family with kids (5&7), the museum becomes interesting thanks to the booklet, but the underground tour is definitely not for small kids, we needed to go out in the middle, i felt like i wasted our money

Sorry to hear this Joris, we try to accomodate as much as possible for the smaller children in the underground simulation. Off course, it is a darkish confined space and the tour is in Dutch. Happy the booklet gave you some more insight. We also have a free iPad-tour in different languages. I hope this was presented to you as well. Best regards, Mijnmuseum
