About
We are an innovative Islay distillery producing unpeated Bruichladdich, heavily peated Port Charlotte and super-heavily peated Octomore single malt whiskies. We use a wide range of barley types, including organic and bere, grown on a variety of terroirs including Islay. We also distill The Botanist gin. Mary at the Laddieshop will be glad to organise a tour of our distillery for you and the distilling team will happily answer any questions you may have.

- CABrunetteSan Francisco, California13 contributionsTour was a disappointmentAs a fan of their Botanist Gin and Port Charlotte whiskey, I was looking forward to my tour of Bruichladdich Distillery. Unfortunately, our tour was a disappointment. Of the 1 1/2 hour tour, our guide spent about 20 minutes sharing very detailed information about their push for sustainability. It’s not that I don’t value and admire this—its that the level of detail was ridiculous and frankly boring. Then another tour jumped in behind us and kept pushing us on to the next thing. Our guide said they were early, but the effect was strange. There was very little mention of the gin process. In addition, our guide was difficult to follow, so we felt like we missed a lot. In the end, we left feeling as though we didn’t learn much about their whiskey or gin processes. There are better, more informative tours in Islay than this.Visited April 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 28 April 2023
- Harry R2 contributionsNever Meet Your Heroes. They say never meet your heroes. How apt this saying is after a week of diligently visiting every distillery on Islay, slowing building to a triumphant crescendo at your favourite Distillery; Bruichladdich. Upon walking in, we were confronted with some of the best merchandise any distiller have to offer. However, when asking for a comfy seat and a selection of the finest drams, it was as though I had sprouted an extra head. To give the staff their dues, I was offered a thimble of complimentary drinks with some good knowledge to go with them, but seeing as I had built up a tremendous thirst, free was not what I was after. I would have happily payed my way, drank everything on offer and spent all my money in the gift shop. What actually transpired was a swift drink and an even swifter exit, feeling deflated. The experience could be improved no end by providing some comfy seating and a full tasting flight of the excellent whisky Bruichladdich has to offer. They may be progressive distillers but don’t bother going if you expect to taste any half decent amount of whisky. I hope to return in future when these changes are fully implemented.Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 13 May 2023
- DithBeeNew Westminster, Canada7 contributionsBeware the wet paintThere was wet paint on one of the walls at the beginning of the tour and no sign. About 5 people in our group got wet paint on them, including me. I spent most of the tour in the toilets washing the paint out of my clothes instead of listening to the tour. They didn’t offer any apology or refund. I guess it’s the risk you take when you visit a working distillery but an apology would have been nice. It’s unfortunate that this was my first exposure to the brand, I’ll always remember this experience when I see them in the store.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 June 2023

A warehouse tasting by Sam and Ashley is well worth booking. Whilst you can book a tour of the distillery, this was a tasting set in a Victorian warehouse surrounded by numerous casks. Thee we perfect setting.
A history and tales of the site along with some excellent drams unique to the distillery and not for sale made for a great afternoon.
A brilliant afternoon by two excellent staff members and a credit to the distillery in the way they presented the those fine drams .

We booked for the warehouse cask tour which was excellent, with the opportunity to draw your own dram from the cask. Only downside being it's quite chilly at this time of year so I'd recommend dressing warmly. We then went back around on the distillery tour to see where the whiskey we'd sampled was made. The tour was very enjoyable with just the right balance of information and entertaining history. It's good to see a distillery keeping so much of its process on the island. I haven't entioned the whiskey as it's speaks for itself and I really can't do it justice!

Had a great experience here on the standard distillery tour. Our tour guide Ash gave us a thorough history of the place as well as many anecdotes from her time there which had a nice personal feeling rather than a sense of coming from a script. We enjoyed 3 drams at the end with optional takeaway if you are driving. The shop has a tasting bar allowing you to try before you buy as well. Thanks for a great experience!

We thoroughly enjoyed the gin cocktail class hosted by Sam. She was knowledgeable and had some great stories about the history of the distillery and its owners.
We had fun making and drinking the gin cocktails and leaning about the gin and the 22 locally sourced botanical.
Thanks for the local insights in to Islay wildlife- this was an added bonus.

I visited the distillery with two friends to take part in the warehouse tasting experience. We were part of a group of 14 who were taken to one of the dunnage warehouses to sample cask drawn whisky nit available outside of the distillery. We were led through the tasting experience by Catriona who was highly knowledgeable, funny and passionate about the whisky and her distillery.
We were given the opportunity to draw our own sample direct from the cask which added to the authenticity of the experience.
Sitting in the cold, dank dunnage warehouse was central to the experience. The distillery provided a presentation box with glass and containers for the samples of whisky.
Having attended many whisky tasting experiences, I can say that this was one of the best. Great whisky, beautifully staged with one of the most competent whisky guides I have had the pleasure of listening to.
Brilliant way to explore Islay whisky with friends or on your own.

Stopped in for the Botanist cocktail making class and I had a wonderful time! Cannot recommend it enough. My guide was Catriona and she was super knowledgeable, friendly and fun. I learned so much more about my favorite gin, and we made some great cocktails as well as getting a quick tour of the distillery. One of the best experiences on Islay (or just in general!)

What an amazing tour. The history of Bruichladdich was so interesting and they still use some of the machinery today. No stainless steel and computers here
Definitely recommend.

Went to Bruichladdich on Sunday for a 'standard' distillery tour. And it ended up being so much more!
The place itself is simply stunning. So much of the original Victorian architecture and equipment remains, which is extremely charming. And the well known Bruichladdich blue is all over!
Catriona was our guide and it's difficult to do justice how good she was! Extremely knowledgeable, very friendly and made it an extremely fun and engaging experience.
We lucked out on our visit as we ended up in the warehouse for an impromptu tasting instead of back at the Laddie Shop where it normally happens - and rest assured when we return, a booked warehouse tasting at Bruichladdich will now be a MUST!
Aboslutely loved it. Can't wait to come back.

Also.. this years schedules for most places on islay aren’t usually up until sometime in February. Reach out directly to them though. You may not need to use the online booking system when the schedule goes live.

What are the prices like for bottles in the shop compared to online or on the high street?
Are samples available to try (or buy)?
Thanks in advance!

Just go and enjoy!

Hi, I was really interested to read that you visited 8 of the distilleries and would like to find out how to go about visiting them all. There are only two of us and we'd prefer not to drive (for obvious reasons) The only tours of them all I can find are 4 or 5 day long stays. Is there a tour which would take us round them all in 1-2 days or can it be done by public transport? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you. Janice (planning to go next summer)
