My wife and I spent a lovely day with Tim on the All Creatures Great and Small tour. We visited numerous sites in “Darrowby” and the surrounding area – pausing frequently to explore on foot and chat with some of the locals. The views of the Yorkshire countryside were spectacular and Tim’s knowledgeable commentary was the perfect accompaniment. We even stopped for a delicious pub lunch. All in all, we couldn’t have asked for a more enjoyable excursion.

We spent a wonderful day with Tim exploring the Yorkshire Moore’s. My husband and I found the day not only interesting and educational from a historical standpoint, but also just generally fun. Tim has so much knowledge and knows the right places to take you and how to structure your time so you are seeing as much as possible as well as not feeling rushed. York and Yorkshire Moore’s and Dale’s are a place of incredible people beauty and we felt so fortunate to get to see it. Thank you Tim for a great day!

We had a fabulous full day of touring with Tim through the Yorkshire Dales, viewing the beautiful countryside and making stops at location sights for
All Creatures Great & Small. But these were more than just “stops” on a tour, Tim filled us in with his knowledge and love of the area, its history and heritage. Tim was an excellent guide, courteous and friendly. He made us comfortable, stopping as desired for restrooms or to grab a picture. Only having one day to spend, I was having a hard time choosing between his Yorkshire Dales Highlight tour and his ACG&S tour. When I mentioned this to him, he crafted our tour to give us a bit of both. It was a well organized and memorable day. And as we said goodbye, he airdropped us some pictures that he had taken of us throughout the day. Memories for our scrapbook! We highly recommend Tim as your tour guide. And if you can’t see everything with him, he can certainly give you recommendations for other places of interest to consider.

So glad you enjoyed our All Creatures Great and Small location tour. It was great to be able to combine it with my Herriot Countey tour to give you a best of both - as you can tell I love the areas we saw. Keep in touch Tim

Tim Barber is not just a highly knowledgeable tour guide, he's a lovely man and great company, too.
We took some important clients from South Wales on one of Tim's hand picked, bespoke tours last Friday (29th September). So we were a party of four.
Tim collected us in his luxurious Volvo SUV from my partner Karen's excellent guest house, Acorn Lodge in Studley Road, Harrogate and our wonderful day began.
First stop, the amazing Tithe Barn at Bolton Abbey/Priory - a stunning interior whose beauty and atmosphere have to be seen to be believed. Karen's son Nick and Fiancée, Luise will hold their wedding there in 11 months time. Can't wait!
Then on to Bolton Abbey itself and its stunning location alongside the fast flowing River Wharfe.
Bolton Abbey has an amazing history and is a must see if in the Dales.
After a full and thoroughly enjoyable tour of Bolton Abbey and grounds (from more recent history, cricket hero Freddie Truman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Trueman) is interred in the graveyard overlooking the river) and after an excellently detailed history from Tim it was on to All Creatures Great and Small/James Herriot country.
Grassington (aka Darrowby in All Creatures) is a simply stunning village deep within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It’s amazing to see all the filming locations of All Creatures Great and Small and some of Tim's guests have actually been fortunate enough to meet the cast during/after filming scenes.
Grassington is a must see when in the Dales.
On to the Fountaine Inn, Linton - just a short drive from Grassington and in another stunning, historic Dales location.
After a wonderful lunch at the ancient Fountaine Inn it was off to Markenfield Hall - a private, ancient moated castle home of the Grantley family near Ripon.
We were shown around the amazing home and grounds by the wonderful Kate, an absolutely charming, knowledgeable and amusing lady, met and played apple throw/collect with Poppy the Black lab in the orchard and then enjoyed a wonderful High Tea and Scones with our guests, House Guide, Kate and Tour Guide, Tim - courtesy of house manager, Sarah.
A very special, personal experience and sincere thanks to Lady Dierdre for opening up her home on such occasion.
Tired but happily fulfilled we were safely returned to Acorn Lodge in Harrogate by Tim and a tour and day to remember always.
Thank you, Tim, thank you Real Yorkshire Tours and we recommend absolutely and with 5 Stars - keep up the great work, Tim.

We wanted to see Beamish, the Living Museum of the North, and Cragside, the house built with so many technological innovations for its day. Timothy wasn't familiar with those places, so before our tour, he went himself and scouted them out so that when we had our tour, he knew exactly where to go and what to expect. He went above and beyond in so many ways to make our time with him interesting and productive.

Thanks to Tim Barber, we had the most wonderful day exploring the beauty and grandeur of the Yorkshire Dales. While we initially were excited to make the many stops on the “All Creatures Great and Small” tour, it was the countryside and the history that made the day so special. Tim, in his easy-going and friendly manner, provided us with a rich overview of this area that he clearly loves, and amazingly connected the places we visited with fascinating historical context. There wasn’t one question he couldn’t answer—and we had many! I only wish his schedule could have afforded us another day with Tim to learn more about this vast, beautiful land. Don’t hesitate to spend the day with Tim!

We spent 2 uplifting days with Tim viewing the North York Moors and Wensley Dale and Wharfedale. We were excited to see and compare the life of Alf White and James Herriott. He showed Alf's office (where he lived), where he got married and where he took his wife on a working honeymoon. He also showed us Grassington which is the set for Darrowby in Creatures Great and Small. By chance they were ending a forties celebration there with everyone dressed in their WWII uniforms and dress of that era (even a spitfire in the plaza) . The countryside was magnificent despite the overcast skies. It in many ways added to the "real feel" of the area. The first day we stopped at the Fish Cottage for the "real" fish and chips. Tim took a couple pictures of us without being asked which was nice as my husband is always the picture taker and seldom in the pictures. It is cooler there and was sprinkly at times so have a rain jacket or umbrella with you and perhaps a sweater. Tim arrived on time at our hotel, was personable, had a good sense of humor and was filled with an abundance of detail and interesting facts.
My husband has more of a historical bent and Tim supplied him great insight into the birthplace of Dracula, the Mouseman wood worker, how a yew tree became the English long bow and how Mary Queen of Scotts felt at Bolton Castle. Don't forget to ask him about Travis Shandy's vicar.
Tim was well educated on his subject matter and SO SO interesting. Actually we spent the entire 2 days in a conversation with Tim that never lagged! We highly recommend him.

When we realized our cruise ship was docking close enough to possibly spend a day in the Yorkshire Dales, we contacted Tim of Real Yorkshire Tours. He promptly responded and told us that while he typically did not lead tours from cruise ships, he would help to make our dream come true. Tim put together a bespoke tour for us and picked us up promptly at the port. He went out of his way to pick us up on time and have us back at the port in plenty of time to board our ship. Our day was filled with beautiful scenery (postcard perfect!), geology, history, legends, culture, animals, interesting people, touches of "All Creatures Great and Small" (our favorite television series), a delicious lunch and a lot of smiles and laughs. Thank you, Tim and Real Yorkshire Tours, for making the day so special for us and sharing your knowledge, humor, driving skills, and great big heart. We will remember you always!
