The Tourist Office is adorned with reproductions of the illustrations to Gabriel Chevallier's comic novel 'Clochemerle' and there is a very interesting museum with a film of his life. "Talking Flowertubs" were intriguing, Also a very good Cave to taste and buy Beaujolais Villages wines.

The story and the place... for me the place is better as it has charm, it has great views, it has good eateries, it has a great little museum and bar the serves all the local wines. Plus the murals in the picture here just show or illustrate the humour...

Lovely little village with friendly local people. Superb Michelin starred restaurant in a charming unpretentious hotel. Taverna (bar) with welcoming owners where locals drink. Rather gloomy, damp wine tasting bar & museum. Wonderful walks of various lengths through the vine fields & woods. Overall I was puzzled as to the lack of visitors in a village that tries so hard... If you want to have your ideas on what a French wine village is like confirmed, go to Clochemerle. It could be from a film except that it's real. The locals are very welcoming especially in the Cave de Clochemerle, decorated with scenes from the Gabriel Chevalier book. You might recognise some of the characters standing at the bar. The... We had a hard time finding this place, but when we finally did, we were pretty disappointed. We saw only four other people the entire time we were in the town, and the museum and cave were both closed until 3 in the afternoon. We were there at lunchtime, hoping to have lunch in what seemed to be a cute... More

A trip down memory lane with a visit to this enigmatic little village. Well worth a visit for lovers of the story. Try the bar in the square to see barrel tops painted with the story & characters
