Stopped of at the car park on the Fife side of the bridge on sat to use the toilet facilities as I had a medical emergency unfortunately they were closed due to COVID
I asked the lady at the coffee kiosk if she had a key and she said no. I asked to use her toilet and let her see my Medicard but she still said she had no toilet despite the door at the back of the kiosk with a toilet sign on it? . I was very stressed and upset and needless to say was in a state when I got home .
Why can’t a disabled toilet be in operation I have a key so if this was the case things would have had a better outcome.
For a place to sell coffee and have no toilets in use is very bad business.and the kiosk should be closed until further notice the same as the toilets.

The Tay Road Bridge was opened by the Queen Mother on the 18th August 1966.
The bridge took 3.5 years to build and total cost was approximately £6m.
The bridge consists of 42 spans and has a shipping channel which is located nearer to the Fife end. Total length of the bridge is 1.398 miles and it runs from Dundee to the small town of Newport-On-Tay on the Fife side.
This used to be a toll bridge with tolls originally being collected in both directions and when first opened the charges were:- motorcycles 1/- (5p), cars 2/6 (12.5p) and 10/- (50p) for HGV's.
On 1st June 1991 one way tolls were introduced for southbound traffic only. The last tolls to be charged were as follows:- motorcycles - free, cars 80p, buses £1.40 and HGV's £2.
Tolls were abolished at midnight on 10th February 2008.
The bridge is very much lower at the Dundee end being 9.75m above sea-level and rising to 38.1m above sea-level at the Fife end. Not so noticeable when driving or walking across the bridge but certainly more noticeable when cycling, especially towards Fife.
The bridge has a central walkway for pedestrians and cyclists. A lovely walk on a nice day. Best idea is to park (free) at the Fife end car park if intending to walk. There are toilets and a snack outlet situated in the car park.
Originally the bridge had two viewing platforms, one at the Dundee end where the old toll booths used to be and the second was approximately two-thirds the way across the bridge heading towards Fife. However, these were both removed during the 1990's.
The Tay Railway Bridge is approximately 1.85 miles upstream from the Tay Road Bridge.

The bridge itself doesn't look amazing but going over the bridge is a blast. The views are lush if the visibility is good. The bridge does the job.

We crossed the bridge twice whist visiting St Andrews coming fom Blairgowrie. Loved the feeling of being in the middle of the mouth of the river and seeing the city of Dundee on our return trip back

The Tay road bridge slopes its way down to Dundee from the Kingdom of Fife. I have walked, cycled and driven across this bridge, there’s a central reservation for pedestrians / cyclists so there’s no need to slum it with the motorists.
It certainly isn’t a ‘concrete monolith’ being made up of around 42 spans; the expansion joints make a reassuring noise when you drive across. Stunning views of the Firth of Tay, out to sea or upstream to Perth. On a clear day, of which there are many in Dundee then the view from the Tay Bridge is hard to beat.
It might not be the most graceful bridge, the plain sister to the magnificent Tay Rail Bridge, but I reckon its utilitarian, workman like demeanour compliments the home of jam, jute & journalism. A no nonsense endeavour with a hint of Dundonian self-depreciation. Stick around long enough and you might just see a dolphin. You probably wont.

The bridge across the Tay provides beautiful views of the city of Dundee on one side and Fife on the other. Also lovely views of the nearby rail bridge and down to the open Tay estuary to Broughty Ferry and beyond into the North Sea. A lovely walk about a mile & a bit both ways. There also a small cafe/shop at the car park at the Fife end for half way refreshments if going both ways. Maybe a bit noisy with traffic but worth it.

While in Dundee on a sunny and mild afternoon I decided to walk down to the riverside and see if it was possible to walk across this bridge. Turns out that it is. There is a lot of work going on at the moment so it looks like a building site, but persevere and you will find there are stairs and also a lift to take you to the bridge level. Unlike the Forth Road Bridge, on this one the pedestrian way is in the middle, but there is a good view to either side as you walk. From the Dundee side you can count 75 numbered lampposts and the bridge slopes uphill as you go. It's just over a mile long and took about 20 minutes or so. At the Fife end is the quaint town of Newport on Tay and also a car park with signs for the Fife Coastal Trail. I imagine it could be quite rough in bad weather, but this was a stunning day and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Getting back going slightly downhill was quicker.

Lets face it, the tay road bridge isnt the most architecturally beautiful structure. Its a concrete monolith.
It does however provide good transport over the beautiful river tay and has a walking/cycle path down the middle which joggers seem to love and as its raised up is good for photographs. During busy times its very noisy though so not a calming experience.
Park and ride is handy if you don't want to pay Dundees crazy parking prices (unless you have an electric car which can park for free) and there is a little cafe which is more commuter orientated than tourist.
It does however provide good transport over the beautiful river tay and has a walking/cycle path down the middle which joggers seem to love and as its raised up is good for photographs. During busy times its very noisy though so not a calming experience.

A bridge in the shadows of the other great bridges on the Forth ,but this bridge has just as good scenic views as any in Scotland with the long sweep from Fife to Dundee . With a Central walkway for pedestrians .Plenty of parking and a Kiosk Cafe on the South side with information on the bridge

I was a bit nervous on this bridge as it does not have high sides and it is rather strange when driving over it. It certainly get you from one side of the river to another quickly

What buses stop at the Tay road bridge car park

When I crossed the Tay Road Bridge I got on the bus at Dundee Bus Station - I was going to Edinburgh Bus Station. Our bus did not stop on the Tay Road Bridge itself but Dundee Bus Station is very close to the Tay Road Bridge. I hope this is helpful.
