The Deutsches Museum presents another important part of its collections at Oberschleissheim Airfield in the north of Munich, close to the old Bavarian palace buildings. The airfield and its historic buildings were constructed between 1912 and 1919 by the Königlich-Bayerische Fliegertruppen (Royal Bavarian Flying Corps). In the early 1990s the historic maintenance hangar was restored and enlarged with a new exhibition hall and a restoration workshop. The Flugwerft Schleissheim complements the big aerospace exhibitions in the main museum in Munich.

I love planes and flight history so I thoroughly enjoyed this visit. There are quite a few unique planes and jets here to keep you amused and I found it worth the trip. If you are not a big flight fan, just stick to the main branch of the Deutches Museum near the city center.

We visited the last time Flugwerft together with our 12 year old sondern whole is very interested in airplanes. In a big room you can see a lot of old flight Modells....but you will also learn a lot of the history of flying. In a small Shop you can drink a Coffee or buy some Souvenirs. I enjoyed it there😎

One of the branches of Deutsche Museum, it is about 20 mins drive from the city. Great collection of items from the early days of aviation including the Otto Lilienthal glider. Lots of WW II planes. Don't forget the Main Deutsche Museum exhibition in the city, it also have lots of aviation stuff.

This is probably the least known musuem among the 3 branches of Deutsches Museum. I visited this museum as I had a combination ticket which includes admission to the main museum, Verkehrszentrum and Flugwerft Schleißheim. I do recommend that you get that ticket as well. As an aviation fan, visiting the museum is a dream come true. The museum grounds... More

One of the three museums in the Deutsche Museum chain in Munich, the other two being the Deutsche Science museum in Munich centre and a transport museum. We arrived on the U bahn and it's a 10-15 min walk but if you follow the signs, we walked for nearly 50 mins there - coming back we went our way and... More

This is the third of the three museums in the Deutsche Museum chain in/near Munich, the other two being the famous Deutsche Science museum in downtown Munich and the transport museum in southwestern Munich. Like the other two museums, this one is excellent, and like the other two museums it is also very large. If you have any interest at... More

For those who have an interest in aircraft, particularly WW2, then this museum is a "must see". Up close to a Messerschmitt 262 and 109. They have a Comet too. Lots more to fill a two hour visit. Then walk round the corner to the beer garden - perfect!

Very interesting museum, lots of information on the history of the airfield and military aviation in Germany, most but not all of the information boards are in English. There are lots of aircraft on display, some of which you can go inside. My only criticism is that the main exhibition hall is predominantly glass with little ventilation, and became very... More

If you are interesested in aviation, then you must visit. The place was "occupied" by the US Army at various periods, including during the Cold War: there the US trained its Helicopter pilots at the height of the Viet Nam war. Even today you can get private helicopter flight training....if you have the time and the money of course.
