The Deutsches Museum presents another important part of its collections at Oberschleissheim Airfield in the north of Munich, close to the old Bavarian palace buildings. The airfield and its historic buildings were constructed between 1912 and 1919 by the Königlich-Bayerische Fliegertruppen (Royal Bavarian Flying Corps). In the early 1990s the historic maintenance hangar was restored and enlarged with a new exhibition hall and a restoration workshop. The Flugwerft Schleissheim complements the big aerospace exhibitions in the main museum in Munich.

Great morning out with the lads. Planes from all decades and many countries, civilian and military. Nearly everything was labelled in English as well as German.

Quite few airplanes to walk into, one fighter cockpit for children to try (which there is always a queue). Very interesting collection, including a cross section of an Ariane 5 booster rocket. More child accessible than other Deutsche museums and a bit more compact. Car...More

This museum is an out-station of the Deutsches Museum in Munich City and has an excellent display including some rare and unique aircraft types, both civil and military. The exhibition building is within reasonable walking distance of the railway station.
