About
Wellington Orbit operates a café and 63 seat cinema in the heart of Wellington, Shropshire. Affordable cinema tickets coupled with very comfortable seating and state of the art projection and audio equipment make this cinema an excellent choice for a visit. Our café sells a delicious range of home made cakes and lunches, as well as barista coffee. We also sell wine, cider, local beer and lager - all of which can be taken into the cinema. The cinema can also be hired out for one-off events, such as end of term screenings for local schools - please contact us for further details. We are always looking for volunteers so if you are interested in being part of the team behind the local independent cinema and cafe, pop-in and we will get you signed up.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited the cafe section of The Orbit. It was busy with a nice atmosphere. We only ordered hot drinks, which came quickly & we were served by a friendly young man. We all enjoyed our drinks, although the flat white wasn’t great, sorry!
An enjoyable visit though, & we did take a cake away which was wonderful.

Went to see "Living" on a meercat 2 for 1 evening. The pre adverts/trailers lasted 30 minutes. Now I know cinemas make money from showing adverts but 30 minutes is a bit too long. Was the 30 minutes because it was a meercat evening?
When I book my ticket for the Iranian Film on 3rd Dec and there's only a handful of audience members.....will I still have to sit through 30 minutes of adverts.Give me a clue🤔Persevere with the foreign films and boycott whatever the local council suggest for free films for over 60s.They have no taste.

Hi Julie. Thanks for your review. The ad lengths are actually out of our control. The ad packages are provided for the film by external distributors and vary in length based on the rating and newness of the film which we are required to run before it.
We have recently ran our own promotional video prior to this which would have increased the total length which will be short term but appreciate your comments.
In regards to film choice, we aim to serve everyone in the community by showing a varied film programme of many different genres. The free over 60s event you mention was in fact a booking made by the council and not something we selected.
We hope to see you for the magic of cinema again in the near future.

What a shame that the pandemic occurred just as this community cinema was getting going. All the more reason to give it a try. Since reopening in 2021 there has been a good selection of recent releases as well as some classics. The space is cosy and the seats are comfortable. The screen is fairly small, similar to those found in the smaller halls of the multiplexes, but the sound is not deafening like the local odeon.
Booking is easy online or in person and they accept Compare the Market Meerkat Movies 2 for 1 codes.
The location is convenient to the railway station and there’s ample free parking in Wellington. The cafe lacks the atmosphere of the Old Market Hall in Shrewsbury as it’s brightly lit and a bit utilitarian, more of a daytime venue than somewhere for a pre-cinema drink. Maybe that will evolve as the rest of the building is developed.
I hope that the venture succeeds and brings a bit of life into Wellington centre.

Went last night to see Fast and Furious 9 with an interview before the film with Jason Pearson, a stunt man in the film who comes from Shropshire. An excellent interview with Carl Jones, radio Shropshires movie show presenter. Delicious lemon cake and refreshments before the film and very friendly staff,
Lovey to have such a great cinema right on our door step!

Went to see the film King Richard being a tennis fan based on the William's sisters.
Parked for free in the evening.Lovely comfy seats.Refreshments/drinks very reasonable.Although run by volunteers very professional as no interval which "Arts Alive "Flicks in the Sticks" insist on having.
Only downer was the length of the adverts at the beginning but I understand showing these keeps the cost down.
Hopefully more foreign films please and what about a film festival ?If Hereford can support the "Borderline Film Festival" why not Wellington ?
This is definitely the best film venue in Shropshire and infinitely superior to the Market Hall in Shrewsbury as no parking problems and it's a lot cheaper.

A lovely little cinema, great visual and sound, reasonably-priced food and drink, comfortable seating, and very friendly staff. We were delighted to support this community venue and will do so again.
