Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The area around the cathedral has been reconstructed as a beautiful although a bit touristy medieval old town. It has a market complete with cobbled streets, souvenir sellers, street performers, coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Even some of the modern buildings like the tourist information office have been constructed to look like medieval buildings.

It takes you back in time and is a great photo opportunity. Spend some time exploring the area after visiting the cathedral.

This is a lovely place about 30 minutes drive out of Tbilisi town. This place is a UNESCO world heritage center, and is worth a visit. The main village is located on the confluence of the Aragvi and mtskvari rivers. It was the old capital of Georgia . The main church is "Armaz-tsikhe" and was built some time in the 6th century. It is a nice church and an imposing structure. It is generally windy and very cold. Transportation is by taxi or personal vehicle. No public transport is available.
The second place is the Jvari citadel located on the other side of the the river confluence. It is located on top of a hill and has a spectacular view. It is extremely windy here and the wind almost blows you away. Inside the atmosphere is very serene and peaceful.
I would advice every one to make this trip. This is one trip no one must miss. On on the return do not miss the Georgian cuisine at the lovely restaurants along the highway. Travelers must be adequately dressed to brave the biting cold during winter months.

The city is splendid but the rudeness of the vendors at the car park kiosk spoiled everything. I have a broken tendon in my knee and serious problems after a long walk. I asked to sit just for one minute so I could rest and stretch my leg. It was evident I was in pain. The lady shouted at me "we are here working" and pushed me away sitting herself in her chair. I was about to faint because of the pain. I do wish she will find herself in the same situation one day. Obviously once sit I would have ordered food and beverages and I also pointed at the counter but no way. Shame on those people.

When you go to Tbilisi, I recommend you to take a guided tour and go to approximately 20 kilometers north of the city at the confluence of the Aragvi and Kura rivers to visit the Mtskheta. This city is one of the most ancient cities-fortresses in Georgia. It has been established 1000 BC and thus is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Due to its historical significance and numerous ancient monuments, the "Historical Monuments of Mtskheta" became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. According to Sergo Edisherashvili in his book titled “Travel in Georgia”, the richest archeological material testifies that Mtshketa was the important trading city on a Silk Way between the Caspian and the Black seas.
I visited the city in Sunday, so I had this chance to see many traditional wedding ceremonies and Infant baptisms in the churches. There you can find many restaurants that serve traditional foods and also you can buy beautiful Georgian souvenirs.

The renovated old houses surrounding the Mtskheta cathedral transformed in small taverns, coffee shops, wine bars and souvenir shops are very offering for many tastes. The cathedral itself with its tall stone wall is majestic. A must see at about 24 km near Tbilisi.

Even if you came to Georgia for a couple of days and plan to stay in Tbilisi only, spend one half of a day to visit Mtskheta town: cozy and lovely streets, plenty of ancient buildings and cathedrals, nice restaurants. Taxi from Tbilisi and back costs peanuts, so strongly recommend to go here and enjoy Georgian soul in a bit less crowded place than Tbilisi

I am looking for the old town Mtskheta but found this review which is where the old town is, the reason why I want to give review of this market is because it is nice to have a walk on the market after going to monastery, well you don't want to go back to Tbilisi right away, so this is the best place to spend some time and enjoy the old scene the marker in which you can buy a lot of different products of Georgia.

It is here where we have tasted the best churchkhela a candle-shaped candy not only that they are cheaper than in the tbilisi center but they are even bigger and tastier!

You will definitely notice this old town when coming back from the Jvari church or monastery.
