We had a very interesting & peaceful tranquil time at the pyramids..We have been to other Pyramids on the East Coast..and you could always feel the intensity of the area...They were warriors..It appears the people that lived here, were farmers..peaceful, just living off the land & soaking in the beauty surrounding them..The lush green valleys.. What a spectacular venue...A monument... More

I can't believe it is so close to Guadalajara and I didn't go until last month. Great museum at the entrance, don't skip the video, it's short and informative about the people that lived there - very different to other pyramids/cultures. Be prepared to walk uphill, but I believe driving up is permitted for people with health issues, not sure.

Interesting ruins about an hour outside of Guadalajara. The museum and video presentation did a good job of explaining the history of the site. The grounds and exhibits on the excavated site made for a pleasant walk, and the view from Guachimontones of the village and lake below was nice. You can try some traditional, hard to find Mexican beverages... More

Wonderful place to visit off the beaten track, plan to spend the whole day, not expensive. Local food in town is good, dont be afraid to go into street shops, food look average but is amazing.

Not much is known about the people who built this place so there is not that much to learn. But it is amazing architecture and only goes to show the richness of our human culture. I was lucky to bump into a group of students who conducted an "experiment". At a place that our guide said they think was an... More

We saw these pyramids taking an organized tour with Charter Club Tours out of Ajijic. The tour starts at a mall where there is easy and free all day parking for your car. The group meets at 8am and the clean, modern and sturdy van leaves on time. We were 7 in total on this tour. The first stop is... More

I like these type of archeological sites and Guachimontones was a nice place to visit. I'd recommend you go to the visitors center first and watch the movie (about 15 minutes) to get some background before going up to the site. You can hire a guide for about 300 pesos (I didn't do this) but would imagine they can provide... More

Is a beautiful place to visit in September because it rains and everything is green. If you go in other months it will be dry and very hot that will make it a different experience. Overall this place is very interesting and different from other ruins they have a new museum with lots of information on this civilisation. The entrance... More

If you've already visited the Guachimontones Interpretive Center, be warned: you haven't really seen it—simply because every six months it changes. A few days ago I was surprised to find a huge, first-class display all about pottery making. “We show how they did it in the past and how they do it today,” guide Marcelo Aguirre told me.In addition, the...
