An awesome secret site, a must visit!
WOW! What a beautiful site! And until our visit to Campeche, completely unknown to us. It is simply amazing to see the mastery the Mayans had of complex architecture, and how different it is from other Mayan sites we've visited (Chichen Itza, Tulum, Uxmal). Really an amazing secret place to visit, a definite go! Indeed, we visited at the end of our trip, and I thought we'd be "Mayan'd out", tired of the ruins and art, but nope, this place is just amazing.

Mayan sites- a multi site review!
This review is for several sites to save you time! Edzna. Fantastic site, $75 per person. Well worth a visit, can’t climb main building but can climb others round the plaza. Temple of masks has original colours. easily reachable from Campeche & signs in English Kabah. Part of Puuc route. $75-80 per person. Main temple is great with lots of detail. No signs. Toilets and a small shop to buy drinks Sayil. Puuc route. Same price, no toilets as they are building new facilities (they are a way off!). Worth a quick pop in for main building but it s a bit of a trek to the further building with very poor signage. Def didn’t match INAH map we had! Labna. Same price. Worth it for the arch and sacbe. Again,no signs & no facilities, lots of unfinished buildings Mayapan is closed, apparently staff strikes. The website does not tell you this. Dzibilchaltan. $308 per person. Museum shut. Cenote shut. One sign about the road,no others. Again, is a building site, no water in toilets, have to scan 2 tickets to get in and scan out again too! Don’t bother We had visited Uxmal & Chichen Itza on previous trip so not reviewed here.

    Small but fantastic Mayan site
This small and quiet site is an impressive place to visit. There are still not many visitors (although that will change as the Tren Maya gets more popular) and that allows you to explore or use the on site guides at leisure. You can clip and explore all the structures except the main temple or 'acropolis'. Don't forget your hat and water as there is at this time nothing on site and not much shade.

An ideal visit for families with children.
We arrived at the archaeological site of Ezna very early in the morning. We were practically alone, as we managed to get there a little after 8:00 a.m. from Campeche city center. We were able to park the car under the shade of a tree. The archaeological site of Edzna has a small museum run by enthusiastic and well-informed women. The archaeological site is really very beautiful and ideal for children who want to explore and climb the structures that still allow visitors to climb. In the area, you can see reconstruction and maintenance work, some structures are still covered by vegetation and that adds to its surroundings that magic and mysticism that surrounds the Mayan culture. The Mascarones that represent the sun deity are very beautiful and very well preserved. The tour of the place is really very pleasant.

If you are interested in exploring the diversity of Mayan archeological sites, look into making it to the two great Mayan archeological sites in Campeche: Calakmul and Edzná, the latter a short drive away (55 kilometers) from Campeche city. Go early in the morning to avoid the oppressive midday sun, which may hinder your enjoyment and willingness to climb to the various platforms that have been unearthed in the site. The Pyramid of Five Floors and the ball court are wonderful highlights. The city was occupied for a long period, which is demonstrated in the existence of two perfectly identifiable "city center platforms", the smaller one predating the impressive, majestic newer one with the Pyramid of the Five Floors at its center. Don't forget to bring water. This was our second visit and, again, the site was almost deserted (we went early on a week day).

My husband was determined to see as many Mayan ruins as possible on our two week trip to Mexico as he a keen photographer. Edzna is a nice peaceful complex whose main attraction is that not too many people go there. If you have been to Chichen Itza or Tulum which are overrun with tourists and want to see the same type of ruins but with fewer people and the chance to take photos without other tourists in the frame then it is worth a visit.

come early and you have the site to yourself. It was awesome to walk around with our teenage kids and there were no other people at opening hour (in August). Most of all there are no souvenir boots along the way so you can enjoy the view and taking pictures. Plus it's a lot cheaper than visiting Chichen Itza although it's almost the same size. Ek Balam and Edzna were clearly our favourites among the Maya sites of the Yocatan peninsula. We were on a private tour by rental car and I'd absolutely recommend going that far to see this place (we did stay in Uayamon, near Campeche)

We were the only group here and our group was small so it was great having the place to ourselves. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable about the Mayans, he is part Mayan. There are no markets or shops here to buy souvenirs, it's a peaceful and well maintained environment to just explore and soak up the atmosphere.

Horrible experience with the parking guard.
Arrived at 14:32pm and they guard didn’t let me.. although in their official webpage it’s written that the site closes at 15pm.
Apparently they do close at 15pm but the guard decided to close the parking at 14:30 in a non official way...

Traveled a lot for this THANKS a lot.

If you happen to go to Campeche to see the walled village, make a point to go out to Edzna. It is both a public park and hodge podge of various architectural styles that the Mayan brought to stone throughout their stages of building. What you see is after the height of their buildings—such as seen at Chichen Itzá and Uxmal—but still has much worth your while. First, especially, on a Sunday, you can picnic along with local families, who are there to enjoy the sight and the grass—something that is lacking in most sites. Also, it is exceedingly clean, with ample bins to remind us all to clean up after ourselves. There are some of the Mayan language in their coded forms and a few other surprises. Bring bug spray because they will be there. But so will be the birds that you see if you take the time to look and listen. You will need to take a taxi or a van to the site should you go.

I visited Edina 15 years ago and was the only person on the site. Incredibly moving and evocative, unlike Chichen Itza which is like an anthill. This time there were a few more people, but not enough to impinge on the experience. Arrive early and beat the crowds.

What a beautiful place to visit. The Riggins address huge and the park-like setting is lovely.
What's really nice here, it's quiet, peaceful. You can walk the ruins on your own or hire a guide.
A definite must.
